Welcome, it is my great pleasure to give you an educational experience that has been proven over and over in different cultural backgrounds and different levels. I currently tutor adults seeking their high school diploma and students in grades first through twelth grade. I have taught individuals from Cambodia, Puerto Rico, India and Jamaica. I have the unique ability due to my social work background to understand my student’s needs and tailor their tutoring to meet their specific needs. I have successfully helped special need students become mainstreamed into regular classes. I work with schools and education coordinators when necessary. I am asked by former parents to help their students even when they have moved to other states. During the summer, I contract with area counties to work with their summer programs to prepare students for the next school year. I am confident that my skills can be an asset to you and you child/ children.
My method of tutoring is to first find out what the students knows through an initial evaluation done in a unique child friendly way. They may not be aware that they are being assessed. Next, I let the student tell me what they do not like about the subject we are working on and then show them fun and interactive ways to make the subject enjoyable, while they are learning. Once the fear of the subject have been exposed and eliminated, teaching them the techniques to successfully solve and locate the answers to math concepts can be easily achieved. Not only will your child love learning but the joy you will see in your child will also bring you joy as well. My tutoring will enrich your life.
In summary, I am multi-faceted, efficient and a reliable educational professional with 20+ years of experience in working with adults and children. Welcome, it is my great pleasure to give you an educational experience that has been proven over and over in different cultural backgrounds and different levels. I can't speak highly enough about Katrina! My son struggled with math throughout his entire academic career. But thanks to her, he was able to finally pass the math portion of the GED and get his diploma! Katrina's patience, knowledge, dedication and support meant the world to my son, and he was able to get that massive boost of confidence that he needed. She is very dependable, a great communicator and always made us feel like my son was her #1 priority. If we need math help again, we will definitely seek her out again! Thank you, Katrina!
My daughter is smiling again and actually said it was fun!! We cannot wait to see the outcome of her exam on Monday!! Also looking forward to more sessions with Katrina.
I am happy with Ms. Katrina. But more importantly my son is always looking forward to studying with her and that speaks volumes. She keeps him engaged throughout the lesson and keeps it fun at the same time. Very timely and professional. The one hour she spends with him is very productive. Ms. Katrina knows where to focus as far as deficiency in my son's school work. She is very resourceful in her materials and methods of teaching. Thank you!
Katrina is an excellent math tutor! She is punctual, and very thorough and patient with explaining details to my daughter. She teaches various methods to solve problems and is very adaptable to my daughter's skill level and needs. My daughter's math exams have improved from 78 to 97! Katrina is just awesome!!!
I don't think words are enough to say how wonderful Katrina is with our 9 year old daughter! We have worked with her for a year now and Katrina has become a constant in our whole family's life. She can be with a child for just a short period of time and she will figure out exactly how that particular child's brain works! Our daughter is an Honor Roll student in 4th grade. Katrina keeps her up on her Math skills and she does it in a fun and joyful manner ( not how doing Math with Mom is, that's for sure)! She keeps our daughter wanting to learn Math, which in turn, we feel keeps our daughter wanting to learn more of everything. In this day and age, with stress and lifestyles so busy, it is a true blessing having someone that we trust and care about, enriching our daughter's life in such an important and loving way!
My nephew appreciated the session immensely. He stated she explained the concepts in a way that he understood and would like to continue to use her assistance.
Katrina is one of the best tutors that I have ever met. She is tutoring my 10th grader son in geometry. She is patient with him, makes learning fun and relates well to him and me. She is also caring and professional. She is committed to the student and the joy of teaching and tutoring.
My son is actually starting to enjoy math, as he can see that it is not as difficult as he thought, and he is motivated by the good grades that he is receiving. Katrina shows up on time, and she responses to phone calls promptly.
Ms. Katrina is patient, yet stern, compassionate and caring, yet she wont stand for laziness. As a parent, you could not find better qualities in a tutor. She knows math as a teacher and could translate difficult equations into terms and examples that our 16 year son could understand. She's concerned about her students, about their school work as well as about their personal lives. She kept me and my husband well informed about his progress. We greatly appreciate her diligence and warm heart. God Bless You, Ms. Katrina!
Katrina has been a huge asset! We don't know what we would have done without her. My daughter graduated from high school in May and did well on the ACT which secured her athletic scholarship. She couldn't have done this without Katrina.
We are most appreciative for the hard work and dedication of Ms. Katrina. She's very knowledgeable and knows how to motivate and stimulate my grandson to the point where he's getting excited about wanting to learn and understand what World History is all about.
Ms. Katrina makes learning "real" by comparing the happenings then to what is happening now. In a short time, she's discovered his strong learning styles which have helped him to better understand and remember the important facts in the unit chapters that he's studying. Ms. Katrina is a "lifesaver" for my grandson and we are very thankful.
Katrina is the greatest teacher we ever had. We are very happy to find her. My son is very happy to have a tutor like her, we feel like she is a family member. We love you Mrs. Katrina. Thanks.
I cannot say enough about Katrina G. I am a 44 yr old mother and wife. I struggled with the GED math for many years. Ms. G. gave me the tools needed in a few sessions to not only pass but score 100 points over the minimum score. She is patient, creative, and always on time. She not only gave me tools but confidence that I could do it. You will not find a tutor with more passion for teaching. Thank You so much!
My child just found out that she passed all sections of the CRCT including math. This is the first year in her school career that she passed the math section. She is exceeding the criteria for English Language Arts!! She is so self assured at this time it can't get her off the ceiling. Katrina you are a Godsend! I can't imagine what we would have done without you. You truly embody the word blessing.
She is a very patient person, who loves math, and we are very fortunate to have her as our son's tutor. Any person who wants to enhance there mathematical experience would not go wrong with Katrina.
So far the experience with Katrina has been great. She really relates well with my granddaughter. She is able to get her to talk and explain the steps taken to solve the algebra problems.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Learning math is like connecting pieces of a puzzle. To see the big picture correctly all the pieces must be in their proper place. Algebra is just a component of the puzzle. I will help you find the proper place where it belongs so that you will see how it connects to lower and upper math concepts. Let's connect these pieces together.
"Putting one foot in front of the other", is a simple motion but crucial if one is to move forward from one point to another under their own power. Algebra, is this step that carries one from a basic math concept to higher math. My unique style gives students the confidence they need to make those steps and move forward.
I have received by B.S. in Elementary Education with a GPA of 3.27. I have also been educating students for over twenty years. I have received my Paraprofessional Certificate from Henry Ford Community College to teach for and qualified under No Child Left Behind.
Elementary math is just that -- elementary -- once you learn the connections/relationship between one concept and another. For example, to find an answer for a division problem, look for the multiple of the numbers. This type of technique gives students the confidence they need to tackle any math problems by breaking it up into smaller components that they recognize. Then math can truly be elementary.
I learned to play the flute when I was in the 5th grade. I took private music lessons and also taught music appreciation and instrumental music for two years in Michigan. I auditioned and was selected to play in the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra as well as taught my daughter to play the piano.
I am qualified in GED preparation. Fear not, your life skills with my experience will give you the confidence you need.
When we think of our surroundings it is very difficult not to see Geometry in something. What is Geometry? It is your house, your car, your children, yourself? Mathematically, Geometry is "the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs." Let me show you Geometry all around you.
Reading and comprehending what you reading are not the same. Having the techniques to decipher and retain information can be taught. This is what I would like to help you achieve.
