I am a certified teacher of students with disabilities. After teaching several children with AS It's clear every child has unique likes and dislikes and most importantly strengths and weaknesses academically. As a tutor for several of these kids I've found my biggest Impact to be helping them communicate strategies that we discover effective to their school teachers. As a behavior specialist I have had trainings regarding the intricacies of AS but realize these students are most importantly individuals who have the need to be understood and accepted for their differences as well as achieve academic success.
I am a certified special education teacher who currently teaches students with moderate to severe autism. I am trained in SCERTS which is the strategy of assisting a child with regulating emotions to support their learning. I also actively incorporate occupational therapy techniques to assist with sensory processing while successfully teaching children how to improve reading comprehension, written expression and math skills.
I am the parent of a child with dyslexia and have references upon request. I am trained to incorporate Gillingham and Lindamood Bell material. I AM NOT a Lindamood Bell clinician.
I currently hold a Georgia certificate and am certified to teach all curriculum areas in the elementary through middle school. I also have Georgia certification in the area of special education and hold a Master's Degree Special Education. My skills to teach students strategies to help them be successful in the class on a daily basis are excellent and personal references are available.
I currently utilize Singapore math, a method based on the primary textbooks and syllabus from the national curriculum of Singapore. These textbooks have a consistent and strong emphasis on problem solving and model drawing with an in depth understanding of the essential math skills. Explanations of math concepts are exceptionally clear and simple. I also utilize TouchMath, a leading multi sensory teaching and learning math program that has been proven to increase math success.
I am trained in Fundations, Orton Gillingham, Language! Intervention series as well as a federally trained Read First teacher who taught first grade to struggling learners. Materials for teaching phonics are researched based. All students are assessed using Dibels and progress monitoring material to show evidence of student progression. Brigance assessment completed for academic achievement base line data so parents can track student growth.
I am currently licensed and considered Highly Qualified as a Special Education teacher. I have been teaching students with disabilities for 19 years using various teaching strategies to accommodate individual learning styles. Sensory integration strategies are implemented while teaching students who have sensitivities to noise or who are easily distracted. I incorporate technology to support learning so that data can easily be collected as students improve reading and math skills.
