Hello from John:

I am a most effective math tutor. Most of my students found me to be easy to understand and they are able to do the material very well. I am very good at picking up on student's weaknesses. I have taught in middle school, high school and college. I get along well with young students and adult students.

Algebra 1

First: listen to student immediate needs. Working on the problems he is having usually includes going over reviewing fundamental rules of algebra.

Also includes fundamentals of working definitions of products and terms. Understanding one-step and two-step equations including combining like terms.

Algebra 2

For students doing poorly, I don't start at the beginning. Instead, we pick up existing assignments and I teach only the fundamentals needed for the existing problem. This requires extra work by the student but avoids falling behind and having to catch up. Instilling confidence and an "I can do this" attitude is key to my teaching.

Our review includes logarithms, radicals, linear equations, trigonometry, matrix manipulations and graphing calculator/

Calculus

First we would go over immediate student needs. Including algebra, trig, logarithms, matrix manipulation and linear equations.
Then, if needed, go over the fundamental rules of calculus including derivatives and anti-derivatives, trig-substitution, maxima and minima, tangent line and volumes of revolution and area.

Grammar

Grammar:

For student who are weak in English grammar, we start with generating a set of notes which are for the student. These notes provide the rules for all parts of speech.

This is complemented with solid lectures and slow-but-sure student participation. We will integrate verbal and written quizzes which we will keep track of. This program will result in improvement in speaking English

Geometry

In Geometry we begin with a circle, reviewing the degrees in a circle. Relate that to a semi-circle and the diameter and the redius. Identify the diameter as an line with 180 degrees. Then add points to the drawing and create angles. evolve this into angles, angle addition and the angle addition property.

I use this approach to introduce and do problems for angle and segments, supplemental and complementary systems, difining and using axioms to create proofs.

Precalculus

First, I listen to the student to determine specific needs if any. If available, we review homework problems and old tests.

In pre-calc we must review logarithms and trigonometry. We do this with a review of fundamentals and "why these are so important in calculus".

We have a complete review of complex algebra problems. Most students who find calculus difficult have algebra shortcomings.

Trigonometry

First we would go over immediate student needs. Including algebra, trig, logarithms, matrix manipulation and linear equations.

SAT Math

If you do not have a study guide or text book I can bring one which you need because we write in it. It costs $15.00 at Barnes and Noble

Although I have an SAT book with several sample tests and scoring strategies...I would start you with some early algebra and geometry lessons and then try some test problems. If you eventually do well on the tests you will probably do well on the SAT Math.
