My name is Ayanna, and I may be a great tutor for you and your preschool and/or elementary school student.
I graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelor's in early childhood education. I have lots (over 17 years) of classroom experience, having taught in both public and private sectors grades pre-K through 5th. I have special emphasis on ECE reading and phonics. I have also taught remedial reading and English on the elementary level and both helped children get to grade level and meet or exceed on the CRCT. I came out of the classroom to home school my children and have been tutoring privately for over 10 years. I recently found and became connected to WyzAnt.
I have experience with students of all ages, including experience with individuals who have special needs and learning disabilities and English language learners. I am also TESOL/TEFL certified.
In general, I favor a "hands-on" approach to teaching that involves a lot of interaction between the tutor and student and concrete experiences in addition to worksheets. However, my specific methods vary according to the subject being taught and the learning style of the student.

I have taught handwriting skills for over 15 years using various methods. I have been trained and certified in what has been my most successful method: Handwriting without tears. I have used and taught this method with MUCH success for over 10 years.
Phonics is knowing that sounds and letters have a relationship — it's that simple, and that complex. It is the link between what we say and what we can read and write. Phonics offers your beginning reader the strategies she needs to sound out words. For example, she learns that the letter D has the sound of /d/ as in "doll." Then she learns how to blend letter sounds together to make words like dog.
The ultimate goal of reading is good comprehension. But in order for your child to understand what he reads, he must be able to do it quickly and automatically, without stumbling over words. Phonics facilitates that process.
