There are three keys to any successful tutor. The first is a strong foundation and experience in the subjects and tests they teach, second is the ability to listen and identify problem areas/misconceptions, and last is the ability to clearly and effectively communicate the content and strategies needed to succeed.
In college I excelled in my coursework with a 4.0 Science and math GPA and scores in the 98th percentile on the national standardized Chemistry ACS exam. I then mastered the Medical Admissions Exam (MCAT), scoring in the 99th percentile on the exam with an overall 39. Throughout college, I was a teaching assistant and tutor for classes like physics, organic, and general chemistry, genetics, and more. Since taking the MCAT and graduating from college I have worked for leading test prep and tutoring companies like Kaplan, NextStep Tutors, Varsity Tutors. I have thousands of hours of tutoring experience working with hundreds of different students. Through personal course and test experience and through tutoring experience I have developed a strong foundation in all content and tests I teach.
In any tutoring session engagement is key, and I love working with students one-on-one or in small groups for this reason. By listening to students and watching them work through problems I can identify weak areas and tailor solutions to their specific needs. The ability to clearly communicate difficult content/strategies is absolutely essential, and I live for what I call the light-bulb moment when students say "wow, that's not so bad."
I know how hard work and diligence pays off, and I am proud to say I will be enrolling in the Mount Sinai School of Medicine this fall. I love tutoring because I get to help students achieve their goals, so let me help you or your child succeed.
