I participated in the peer tutoring program while in college and have assisted children of friends with learning, especially Math and English. I also have experience as a Substitute Teacher. I feel that getting a student interested and engaging them (making learning enjoyable) is the key to effective teaching/tutoring. Lessons in Math, for example, can easily be disguised as games or puzzles, making the work fun for students while teaching them at the same time.
I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Comparative Literature at UGA in 1989. As this is a Liberal Arts degree, I took many classes in various subjects, including Math, Statistics, Liberal Arts, History and more. I have done editing/proofreading work in my spare time. Over the past two years, I have completed copy editing of three books, which have been published. I also worked for UGA Test Scoring and Reporting for over ten years, evaluating the writing portion of statewide proficiency tests. I am affordable and hard-working, and as a tutor, I will give my all to help kids learn, from kindergarten through high school.
I am an avid reader, with an above average vocabulary and excellent knowledge of grammar, spelling, correct punctuation, etc. I have always loved Math too and can assist students with basic Math and Pre-Algebra, as well as Algebra I and II.
Finally, I think the key to learning is often learning how to learn, a skill many children lack! I can help. Please contact me, and I will be glad to answer any questions you might have.
