My name is Megan, and I currently hold a Georgia Teaching Certificate, and a dual degree in Early Childhood and Special Education. I absolutely love teaching and my main goal with all students is to see them succeed. I have in-classroom experience working with students in pre-k through 5th grades. I also have a wide range of tutoring experience that extends from pre-k to college. I have a very flexible schedule, and I am willing to work with each student to come up with a schedule and individualized plan that will work for them. My personal belief is that all students can learn. I do not believe that any student is unreachable or unteachable. Patience is a strength of mine and I excel in the ability to adapt my teaching to the needs of the student. I have tutored a countless number of students, and I hope to add more to that list. Some of my favorite subjects are Math, Reading, Writing, and Phonics. However, I am approved and more than capable of teaching all of my listed subjects. I can assure you that you will be happy with me as a tutor.

Megan’s subjects

I am a certified teacher. I also hold a dual degree in early childhood and special education. I have worked as the lead teacher in an inclusion classroom, and I have experience working with ADD/ADHD students. I am a very patient teacher, and I do not push students beyond what they are capable of doing. I work with my students on an individual basis, and I give them the support that they need in order to be successful.

Algebra 1

Math is one subject that builds on itself. Because of this, I am very careful to make sure I discover where a student is before I begin tutoring. I make sure the student has an understanding of not only what he/she needs to know, but all that leads up to it as well. Math was always one of my favorite subjects to learn, and is now one of my favorite subjects to teach.

Algebra 2

Math is one of my personal favorite subjects. It was my favorite subject to learn, and it is one of my favorite subjects to teach. I am a good math tutor, because I enjoy it. I am great math tutor because I recognize math as a subject that builds. I figure out where the student is, and I start tutoring there, not where the student should be. This allows students to truly understand the concepts, not just memorize answers for a test.

Prior to becoming a school teacher, I spent seven years teaching ballet and tap at a local dance studio. While there, I planned and taught classes, choreographed dances, and played a significant role in each year's recital. I also danced myself from the ages of 5 to 18, and I was cast in the Nutcracker for four years.

I did very well in my science classes growing up. I mastered the material very well, and because of that, I ended up tutoring classmates. Sciences are full of processes and steps. I take my time and make sure my students understand each part of what I'm teaching before moving on. I am also a big advocate of hands-on teaching, and use it as much as possible.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher. I hold a Georgia Teaching Certificate as well as a dual degree from Macon State College in early childhood and special education. I have experience working as a public school teacher in Georgia, where I served as model teacher.

Elementary Math

I am certified to teach all elementary level subjects. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects and is one of my favorite subjects to teach. When teaching math, I make sure that I identify the level of the student prior to beginning the lesson. I begin teaching where the student is NOT where the assignment begins.

Elementary Science

I am certified to teach all elementary level subjects. I enjoy science because it give students an outlet to explore the world around them. In my classroom, science was a part of our daily curriculum. I teach a wide range of topics and expose my students to experimenting and the scientific process.

I think English is very important. The need for English proficiency begins at a very young age, and extends all the way through the rest of your life. As a teacher and tutor, I have successfully taught English to many students including some who did not realize that they initially needed it.

General Computer

I do very well working with computers. I am comfortable with most computer programs, and I have been known to be very creative with things such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. I am a great typist, and I have experience working as a typing tutor. When it comes to computers, I learn by exploring, and I teach with a hands on approach. I am also married to a computer programmer from whom I have learned a lot.

I love all things math, and I always have. Math is a subject that builds on itself. Because of this, I always figure out the current level of a student prior to any instruction. I meet students where they are and build from there. I never force a student to learn new material when they don't understand the prerequisites. I teach each student on an individual basis, and I am invested in every student that I work with.

As a certified teacher, grammar is something that I cannot overlook. Not only do I have a ton of experience teaching grammar to my students, I also constantly review concepts as I teach students to read and write. Grammar is one of the main subjects that I find my students need additional assistance in. It is mixed in with so many other subjects as well as day to day life. Due to this fact, I tutor students in grammar on a regular basis both independently and as a part of other subjects.

I am a certified teacher and I have taught in pre-k, kindergarten, and 1st grade classrooms where handwriting is one of the primary goals. I know how to encourage students without pushing them too far, and I know how to teach them tricks to remember how to form letters correctly. I can teach beginning writers how to write, and advanced writers how to improve their writing. My ultimate goal with handwriting, and all subjects, is to get the student to a point where they are comfortable and proud of the work they have accomplished.

Microsoft Excel

As a teacher, I have a lot of experience with Excel. I am constantly compiling and reviewing data on my students, and Excel makes such beautiful documents. I use Excel both at work and for personal use on a regular basis. When friends, family, and co-workers need assistance with creating a spreadsheet or using a particular function, they turn to me for help.

Microsoft PowerPoint

I absolutely LOVE PowerPoint. I have used PowerPoint for a wide range of tasks and presentations including displaying information, creating assessments for my students, and providing a resource to go along with a lesson. I have even created an interactive alphabet game for my students using PowerPoint. I am well known by my friends, family, and coworkers as the person to come to for help with PowerPoint Presentations.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word is something that I personally couldn't live without. As a teacher, I am required to create many documents on a regular basis. I also use Word for personal use quite frequently. I am known by my friends, family, and coworkers as the person to come to with questions about Word.

Phonics is one of my all time favorite subjects to teach. I love seeing a child learn to put letters and sounds together as they are learning to read and write. As a teacher, I taught phonics on a daily basis. I have also personally created phonics plans, lessons, activities, and assessments that go along with Georgia Performance Standards.

I am a certified teacher. I hold a Georgia Teaching Certificate, and I have experience working as a public school teacher in Georgia, where I served as model teacher.

Physical Science

Science is a subject that can be so easily overlooked. However, it is very important. Science is a chance for students to explore and discover. With science, I take the hands-on approach as much as possible, but I always work my hardest to make it interesting and exciting. I do not believe in teaching my students to memorize answers. I teach them the concepts and how to understand and enjoy what they are learning.

Prealgebra is an incredibly important subject. Math is a subject that builds on itself, and prealgebra is the foundation for so many higher level maths. When I work with students, I determine what level they are on before teaching current content. It is more important to understand why and how something works than to memorize the steps to solve the problems for the test. I meet students where they are academically, and then build them to where they need to be. I teach them to understand concepts and to enjoy all of math's great "puzzles".

Reading is not only incredibly important, but it is, in my opinion, one of the most rewarding subjects to teach. As a certified teacher, I have experience teaching reading on a daily basis. I teach students how to read (including the foundations of reading), how to understand what they are reading, and how to learn from reading. I approach reading on the level of the student, and build the instruction from there.

Sewing is a hobby of mine. I learned to sew at a very young age, and have made everything from pillows and blankets to stuffed animals and clothing. I even made my own prom dress my senior year of high school. I can sew on a machine as well as by hand.

I love soccer. I played soccer from the age of 8 all the way through high school. While playing for my high school team, I started almost every game, and I played every position at least once (in a game), but my favorite position was forward (or striker). I also played a lot of midfield. I have also assisted with coaching, and I held a job as a soccer referee.

Special Needs

I am certified in both early childhood and special education. I have worked in inclusion classes for 4 years. Those classes included a wide range of students with a variety of special needs. I love seeing my students succeed and I love to see them prove that they can do more than what most people give them credit for.

When teaching spelling, I focus on rules and strategies, NOT memorization. When working with students, I use phonics to teach these valuable skills. I also teach students many important study skills that will allow them to remember how to spell words. In addition, I teach students how to check their spelling and/or look up words they are unsure of.

Study Skills

I am a certified teacher. I hold a Georgia Teaching Certificate, and I have experience working as a public school teacher in Georgia, where I served as model teacher.

As a teacher, I know what teachers are looking for, and I have personal experience with creating and grading assignments and assessments. I tutored students at my past schools on a regular basis. I teach students how to manage their time, understand the content, and know what to look for. I also teach my students study tricks and good habits.

As a teacher, I know the importance of teaching a student to have and use a strong vocabulary. I teach my students vocabulary by first and foremost, exposing them to new words. I also use prior knowledge, pictures (if necessary), and lots of examples when introducing new words. I always ensure that students completely understand new vocabulary before expecting them to use it.

I absolutely love to teach writing. I have taught kindergarteners to learn the first steps of writing, and I've taught high schoolers to improve their writing for assignments and papers. Either way, writing is incredibly rewarding to teach and even more important to learn. It goes far beyond the pencil and paper, and as a teacher, I know how to teach all aspects of writing so students really know how to utilize their resources and get their thoughts on paper.

Macon State College (Early Childhood Edu.)

Very Knowledgeable and Patient — Megan was a great instructor. At first she did an assessment which allowed her to see the level at which my nephew was performing. She was very structured in her instructions. She used technology to capitalize on his interest, by using the computer to aid in her teaching. There was significant improvement after we started tutoring sessions with her. She was very honest in reporting when he needed ...
