Hello my name is Carolyn L. and I have a sincere passion for teaching and learning. Therefore as a teacher I use my energy and love for English and history to inspire my students to enjoy the learning process as much as I do. I have enjoyed success in the area of English Language Arts and use creativity to engage the students I teach. I focus my tutoring to reading, writing, English, and all areas of history and social studies.

I am a certified teacher specializing in English, reading and writing. I also hold a certification in the area of history and can tutor these classes as I hold degrees in both English and history. I have been teaching for more than ten years and have had success with the rigors of standardized testing, which include the Georgia Writing Test as well as End of Course assessments and the CRCT. I have a proven success record with students who received tutoring at least twice a week.

I also have a Masters Degree in Special Education and have provided special education services and teaching to students with disabilities. Currently I am writing my dissertation and tutoring keeps me sharp as I am in the classroom on a part-time basis.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am dual certified by the state of Georgia to teach classes K-6 which include Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science, also Special Education K-12. I have taught grades in my teaching experience which includes 4th and 6th grades, I feel very comfortable in these areas of tutoring.

English

I currently have two five star ratings from other students that I have tutored in English Language Arts and I also hold a Bachelor's degree in English.

Hard Of Hearing

I was an interpreter for the deaf before I began teaching. I continue to work with students who are deaf and hearing impaired. I am fluent in ASL as well as SEE.

Public Speaking

I have had five years tutoring public speaking, with students ranging from grades 9-11. Public speaking is a part of the Language Arts curriculum and mastery of the skill is very important.

I began tutoring speaking classes to help my students feel more comfortable as they present their speeches in class. I taught my students how to relax and began with a joke or related story. As well as to remember to be on the same level with the audience and pace the speech so that it doesn't tend to sound rushed.

As a tutor I enjoy motivating students to work hard in maintaining and developing their abilities in verbal communication skills, as this is a vital element in a successful public speaker.

Sign Language

I have been an interpreter for the deaf for more than twenty years. I hold a certification in interpreting, and have worked in the office of student support services in Birmingham AL. I am fluent in ASL and SEE.

Study Skills

As an Interrelated Resource teacher I have had the experience of teaching Study Skills classes to my students with organizational difficulties. With this experience I am qualified to teach students in need of positive study habits and thereby encouraging academic success. It is the opinion of this tutor that Study Skills is the building block for student achievement.

Vocabulary

I use current teaching strategies to build vocabulary skills, these skills will prove quite useful when students grades 9-11 are taking the SAT, ACT and the Georgia Writing Test. During tutoring sessions I use a chunk of time to increase vocabulary and stress its importance.

Professional and personable I found Carolyn B. and her style refreshing and suitable for my grandson. She jumped right in and he was engaged the entire time. It is an added plus that she happens to be left-handed just like him and better suited, in my opinion, to. assist him in his handwriting journey. If today was any indication of what is ahead, I stand grateful that she answered despite her full schedule. I am confident t ...
