Greetings! My name is Phaidra and I love math! I have a BS in Architecture and a MS in Civil Engineering. My teaching experience includes working at a local community college, teaching elementary school math, high school math (Algebra I & II), adult high school geometry and substituting math classes for a local middle school. I also have experience tutoring adults and children one-on-one.
At this time, I mainly tutor online-virtually or in my home.
Many people that I tutor say I explain math so well that I should be a teacher. My approach to tutoring is that I create a very comfortable, stress-free, encouraging atmosphere so that my students focus more on learning than on what they don't know. I use math jargon but try to make sure the student not only understands what (s)he is doing, but why and how it relates to other topics they have learned. I think it is important for students to understand the interconnectedness of mathematical principles as well as the "method" behind solving problems instead of simply following a bunch of steps.
As for Spanish, I lived in Spain for two years when I was a child, so that gave me a good foundation in the language. I continued my studies in Spanish through college and have even taught high school Spanish I and II. I currently attend a Spanish speaking church where I am very active. Next year I will be the assistant church secretary, so you can see, my Spanish is very good. I can help you with composition, grammar, conversation, pronunciation, reading, etc. Quiero y puedo ayudarte! I want to, and can, help you!
