I have been a teacher for 22 years. First, I earned my degree in Art at the State University of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (U.A.S.D.). I later earned a bilingual teaching degree from U.N.P.H.U., also in Santo Domingo. After teaching for 6 years in the D.R., I moved to Pittsburgh where I taught for the following 10 years. While in Pittsburgh, I received the "Walmart Teacher of the Year" award. I moved to Georgia in 2006 and I have been teaching Art and Spanish, among other subjects, at a local Christian school. I love my job and really enjoy interacting with struggling students. I do my best to raise the student's self-esteem and to help him/her believe that he/she can do better. I am fluent in Spanish and I use my artistic talent to enhance my teaching style. I am warm, approachable, and flexible. My experience with students for the last 21 years, as well as with my own three children, has empowered me to be patient, understanding, yet consistent in my approach. In addition to my experience as a school teacher, I have worked as an in-home tutor for the last six years.

Grammar

Grammar holds the key to effective communication. I help my students understand how the grammar rules, when followed, can help us communicate our thoughts clearly and understand the writer's ideas fully. I also know how to make it fun and relevant for each grade level.

Prealgebra

Prealgebra can be so much fun. It is the door to all the higher math levels. I make sure students understand that variables are real items and not just letters. Once they grasp this concept, prealgebra stops being an abstract subject for them. After a short reinforcement of the basics, I move on to demystifying the concepts and making them fun.

Reading

Reading is the foundation for all the other subjects. Grasping the writer's ideas is it's goal. This is what reading comprehension is all about. I help my students learn to enjoy the gift of reading and I use my artistic skills to enhance the process. Finding the main idea, discovering the supporting details, appreciating the figures of speech...that's the stuff!

Spanish

I have been a school teacher for the last 21 years. I have taught Spanish multiple times in grade levels ranging from pre-school to college. In addition to my experience as a formal school teacher, I have worked as a tutor for the last 6 school years assisting students in all subjects.

English

Languages are living organisms. I love seeing how the English language structure works. It is a beautiful, rich language worth enjoying to the fullest. Although I have been fluent for the last 30 years, English is not my first language. Understanding it from the vantage point of another language has helped me make English clearer to my students.

Elementary Math

I have taught elementary math multiple times and have discovered that elementary students grasp new concepts based on how strong their math foundation is. I always work on strengthening the basics first, and then build on that foundation with new, more complex concepts. I also use my artistic skills to illustrate and enlighten the new ideas.

Elementary Science

The secret to helping a student excel in elementary science is to make it fun. Science is just careful observation of the world around us. It doesn't have to be boring and tedious. I like to make silly characters out of the concepts from the book and it has proved to help students understand and remember them better.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been a school teacher for the last 21 years. I have taught all the core elementary subjects multiple times. In addition to my experience as a formal school teacher, I have worked as a tutor for the last 6 school years, assisting elementary students in all subjects.

Study Skills

I am naturally organized. I can help students see the big picture and grasp an understanding for what needs to be done first, next, and so on. Studying for a test is different than studying for understanding or studying in order to master a skill. Again, the key is to be able to see the big picture and break the process down in order to achieve success.

Religion

I have taught World History several times. As part of that curriculum, I have studied and taught on the different world religions. I have conducted teaching sessions on the differences of the main religions as a Youth Pastor. I have also taken multiple seminars on religion during my 19 years as a teacher, both in Pennsylvania as well as in Georgia.

ESL/ESOL

My first teaching job was as an ESL teacher. I am fully bilingual in English/Spanish. I can relate to the frustrations and struggles that students from other languages go through. I am patient yet determined to help my students improve. I have taught English to Spanish-speaking students in the elementary level. I have also taught Spanish to students in all levels, including adult.

Bible Studies

I have been a Christian for over 25 years. I have studied the Bible on my own, as well as in multiple Bible seminars throughout my 19 years as a teacher, in the Dominican Republic, Pennsylvania and Georgia. I have taught different Bible curricula in all the Christian schools where I have worked.

I have a degree in Art from U.A.S.D., the State University in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. I have taught Art for over 7 years at the different schools I've worked for. Currently, I am the Art teacher for students in 4th-8th grade at Collins Hill Christian School in Lawrenceville, GA. I also taught Art, including Drawing, on my own as a freelance Art teacher. My Art specialty is indeed Drawing. I have performed multiple portrait drawings both in the U.S. and overseas.

Painting

I have an Art degree from the State University in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (U.A.S.D.). I have taught Art History and different Art genre to students of all levels. I had 2 exhibits of my paintings in a local Art gallery. I am currently the Art teacher at Collins Hill Christian School in Lawrenceville, GA.
