Hi, my name is Eti and I have been a math, science, and English tutor for several years now. I hold a BS degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Riverside. I assist all grade levels and although I am not an expert, I produce results. I am very patient and I work with you to find out the best method in helping you succeed. I love what I do and I can't wait to help you or your child. Don't hesitate to contact me and we can discuss what your needs are. Hope to hear from you soon!
Also I will begin online tutoring sessions as of January 2014; please ask me about that. Thanks!
Currently my tutoring hours are as follows:
Monday, Wednesday, Friday after 6:30pm
Saturdays after 10:30am
Sunday after 1:30pm
I teach k-12 as well as college level algebra. I'll show you it's fun and easy to understand! Most students who have a hard time with math usually don't have a good grasp of a foundational concept and then feel left behind when new material builds on the old. I'll help you tackle what you don't know and keep you ahead of concepts you'll learn in class. It'll becomes a review for you when you see it in class as opposed to foreign material you've never seen before.
I can't list off all of the important historical dates and not necessarily a history buff, but I can show you how to understand your reading. I find that most students struggling in this subject need guidance in reading comprehension and analysis; determining the important aspect of their reading material. History isn't about memorizing, but understanding what has happened and seeing how it influences present day. Usually when a student makes that connection, the information sticks.
Biology is one of those subjects I love, but there is definitely a lot of information to sort through. I first took biology in 10th grade and scored a 4 on the AP exam. I went on to take quite a few more courses of biology in college (general, molecular, ecology) and did well in those classes also. I am not an expert, but leading study groups really helped me understand and retain all of this information. I'll show you some of the tools that I used to excel in these courses and help you get there as well.
Tackling this subject is not a sprint, it's going to be constant reinforcement and take a lot of hard work on your part. I am not a miracle worker and there is no so called easy button. You will, however, have a dedicated tutor on your side to help guide you through.
I received my degree in chemical engineering from the University of California, Riverside. I have done coursework including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass & heat transfer, etc. I am also involved with professional organizations such as AICHE and NSBE, so I try to stay current with what is going on in the industry as well. Not only can I assist students with the coursework, but I can give them incite to things such as the EIT/FE examination for professional engineers and provide personal experience regarding the workforce for new engineering graduates.
Whether it is general chemistry or organic chemistry, I am the tutor for you. I obtained my undergraduate degree in chemical engineering. As the discipline suggests, I have taken quite a few chemistry courses in my day. I love the subject and I am fortunate to be able to teach the subject to students in a way that they can understand.
I also took Honors Chemistry and passed the AP chemistry exam in High School, so if you are in these courses and struggling, I can get you through it.
The great thing about chemistry is that there is order, most fundamental concepts never change so if you get a good grasp of it in high school, it will be exponentially easier for you in college.
I teach general micro and macro economic concepts. I took both courses in college and received a good grade. I conducted study groups with my fellow classmates and helped them understand the concepts. I can do the same for you.
I find that the reason why some students do poorly in economics is that they just focus on the theory and not the computation. It is one thing to understand what they are saying in your textbook, but it is another thing to actually put it into practice.
I will take the time to explain these concepts to you and work out examples, so they become second nature.
I have tutored k-6th for the past 4 years, primarily focusing on reading skills and math. The main goal for these students is to assist them in achieving their academic milestones as described in the California state education standards per grade level. I also like to challenge my students so that materials that we go over become easy for them once they see it in the classroom.
I have quite a bit experience teaching K-12 mathematics.
As a chemical engineering major in college, I also minored in bioengineering. This required that I take subjects such as biology, organic chemistry, microbiology, and biological engineering principals. I did well in microbiology.
I took the O Chem series during undergrad at UCR and did well. I can help you break down the material and teach it to you in a way that will stick. Nothing substitutes reading and lots of practice in this subject; there are plenty of mechanisms to go over and detail in the readings. I found that working through concepts and problems with a friend helped a great deal in understanding this class. If you have a friend in need of help also, have them join in. This subject is great when you can get a discussion going, since you able to get more than one perspective. I don't charge extra for a group of up to 3 in this subject!
I have taught quite a few kindergarteners as well as other grade levels how to read or improved their fluency. I use various workbooks to familiarize the students with long/short vowel sounds as well as common beginning, middle, and end word blends. I am very patient and teach at a pace that is dictated by my students' comfort levels.
I was the go to person when it came to spelling, grammar and essay writing in college. In fact, many of my friends and colleagues still send me their papers or proposals to look over before they submit it for work! I will not only proofread your essays, but I can help you organize your thoughts and develop a well written paper in no time.
I don't have formal training in public speaking, but I have participated in plenty of oratorical contests since elementary school. I have picked up plenty of tips along the way and will be glad to share them with you. I can assist you with being a more effective speaker and eliminating filler words, such as um and like, in your speeches or presentation. I also participated in a few Forensics competitions as a Novice during my undergrad and can help you with perfecting your deliverance of informational and persuasive style of speaking.
Reading comprehension is an important basis for excelling in not only your English course, but every other subject you encounter; in math, it helps you understand and dissect word problems, you are better able to retain information in your Biology and Chemistry course.
I particularly like to help students (k-6) who are having difficulty with reading. For the past 4 years, I have taught kids how to read through developing their phonics and blending sounds. With the older children, I have them go through passages and answer questions about the reading. If I find that they did not fully grasp the important elements of the story, I have them break down their reading paragraph by paragraph and develop an overall summary from there. It is a patient process, but I have seen great results time and again.
Most of my experience with this has come from improving the reading levels of children through the No Child Left Behind initiative at their school. I bring along grade appropriate workbooks and have them read passages from which they answer questions about after they are done. Through an initial assessment, I can determine why they are having difficulty. Sometimes it is as simple as understanding the main idea, other times it's determining the author's tone or point of view.
Every child is different in how they approach reading and I will help them get on the right path to understanding.
Building a child's vocabulary is a key factor in his or her ability to fully comprehend what they are reading. I encourage children to have a pocket dictionary as well as a thorough home dictionary so they can look up unfamiliar words as they read. I never feed them answers but encourage them instead to seek for themselves. I provide a list of words according to their grade level that we can work through and allow them to not only discover meanings, but associate them with familiar ones already in their vocabulary.
