My goals as a tutor revolve around uncovering teaching methods that work best for every individual. In keeping with that goal, I monitor new academic research in the cognitive & education fields on a weekly basis for different methodologies. I have been a private tutor since my freshman year of college in 2009 and have tutored more than 90 students in the last five years. Because I am motivated by my own acquisition of knowledge, I have been able to tutor in many different subjects.
I specialize in standardized test preparation including all sections of the PSAT, SAT, ACT, and ASVAB. I achieved the highest SAT score in my graduating class and was awarded an academic scholarship for my efforts. For military applicants, I scored within the 98th percentile nationwide on the ASVAB and have been recommended by many students for my tutoring abilities in that area.
My strongest tutoring subjects include the topics that I have tutored for at the college-level including general mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra I/II, geometry, trigonometry, integral and differential calculus, differential equations) and descriptive and inferential statistics with the statistical software SPSS, SAS, and R.
In addition to the topics I tutor for at the college-level and below, I have also tutored the following at the K-12 level: English, biology, chemistry, physical science, and physics.
I am well-versed in differing tutoring methods of students with various mental disadvantages including ADD/ADHD, Asperger's/Autism spectrum, and dyslexia/dysgraphia. I can provide patient guidance to all students. My goals as a tutor revolve around uncovering teaching methods that work best for every individual. Torrey is the absolute best! He helped me get a great score on the ASVAB and is now helping me in science. He is always very patient, easy to get in contact with, and very professional. His main goal is to make YOU succeed and he is more than willing to go the extra mile to make that happen!
My daughter's PSAT scores showed great improvement after tutoring sessions with Torrey. Will continue with Torrey for the SAT and ACT.
Torrey has a relaxed way about him that puts my son at ease. He is currently providing homework help to my 8th grade son and addresses gaps in his understanding of the material. In working with Torrey, my son's self-confidence in Math has improved. We highly recommend Torrey!
Torrey helped me understand the statistics lesson at hand. If I do not understand it, he will continue to rephrase and adjust the content so that it is broken down to terms that I can intellectually grasp. Overall great tutor.
Exceptional tutor, no wasting of time. The way he explain and broke down the math problems made them very easy to comprehend. I would highly recommend this tutor to any student or adult. Great Job!
Torrey is very patient and has a very calm personality. He explained things in ways that I was able to comprehend. Thanks Torrey.
Torrey is an excellent tutor, and is very knowledgeable and works very well with my son regarding several high school subjects. He keeps my son attentive and productive while accomplishing school lessons. Torrey is always prompt, very polite and "low key" which is terrific for our busy household. I would strongly recommend him for tutoring, as long as he still has time for my son as well! Thank you.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In my undergraduate institution, SAS is heavily emphasized within the statistics department. In pursuit of my statistics and data analysis minor I have completed eight to ten projects utilizing SAS. On June 1st 2015 I will be eligible to apply for Base SAS certification and intend to complete further certifications after that point.
