I am a former US Marine with experience in teaching/tutoring students from age 9 all the way up to Marines preparing for deployments to various theaters around the world. My passion lies mostly within mathematics, but I am a dedicated lifelong learner and I strive to learn, and teach, as much as possible across many different subject areas.
My style of tutoring is not unlike the way I grew up, and prefer, learning. I like to give my students just enough information to get to the next step and see if they can connect the dots themselves. As one of my professors put it into perspective for me, when you are learning, it is like taking your brain to the gym -- you need to give it a workout for it to grow stronger and for learning to occur. If you are fed everything without having to struggle through it yourself, your brain won't be getting a workout and you are limiting your potential to learn as effectively as possible. Furthermore, my enthusiasm for teaching is a perfect complement to my unique patience and understanding for others, especially when trying to learn something new. Two ideas that I like to remind myself of on a daily basis are that, without great teachers, none of us would be where were are today and that I believe that having knowledge, without sharing it, is pointless.
I am currently a senior math major at Kennesaw State University, where I also played 4 years of college club lacrosse and was named an All-Conference player. If you are interested in private lacrosse instruction, please feel free to ask.
I took Algebra 1 in high school and retained enough knowledge of it that, when I started college, I was able to test-out of having to take an Algebra class again.
I took Algebra 2 in high school and retained enough knowledge of it that, when I started college, I was able to test-out of having to take an Algebra class again.
Algebra is the MOST important subject when it comes to math because if you can't do Algebra properly, you will not be set-up for success for any math subject following Algebra. This class should not be taken lightly.
I earned a 92 out of 99 possible points on the ASVAB prior to joining them military. Before my service ended, I worked at the base education center helping fellow Marines and Sailors improve their ASVAB scores so that they could transfer to a more desirable job to better their career in the military.
I took Calculus I my first semester as a full-time college student after ending my service in the military and earned an A. I then took Calculus II and Calculus III, earning a B in both of those classes.
I took Geometry in high school and it was my first taste of what it meant to write a proof -- and I loved it!
I have been playing lacrosse since 2002, playing in high school, college club lacrosse, and now on a couple of men's club teams around Atlanta. While playing club lacrosse in college, I was named to the All-Conference team as a midfielder for the Southeastern Lacrosse Conference. Over the past four years, I have coached 9-year-old boys and girls all the way up to boy's high school varsity and summer travel select teams. I am a true student of the game, learning as much as I can at every opportunity, and passing-on my knowledge of lacrosse makes me happy.
I took Pre-Calculus while I was still in the military and earned an A in the class.
I took Probability in college and earned a B in the class. The complexity of certain probability questions is something that intrigues me and I really enjoy learning about the different possible outcomes.
