I have been a teacher for 25 years. My philosophy as an educator has always been for students to become better learners by maximizing their own talents. I thrive on finding ways to meet the needs of my students and proving to them that that they can indeed learn the material before them.

Apart from tutoring, I am a professor at Kennesaw State University in the Department of Education. I am teaching future teachers how to teach and I love it. I have a MS in Science Education and a BA in Biology. I am on the Board of Directors for the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at the University of Tennessee. I have the wonderful opportunity to have an influence on the future of education in our country.

I am responsible, personable and make my sessions fun for the student. I taught in Germany for the Department of Defense, in NV, TN, and of course in GA. I have a flexible schedule and tutor during holidays if needed.

I would love to help your child reach his or her potential.

American History

In order to learn American History, one needs to tie dates, people and places together effectively. As an experienced teacher, I am great at helping students make analogies and related one bit of information to another.

Biology

I love science and showing kids how easy it really is to understand. I have taught Magnet, Honors and On-Level Biology for more than 15 years. I am AP Biology Certified as well. I have dozens of examples that can make biological content clearer to today's student. I use analogies, stories, raps, cheers and other manipulatives to get my students involved in their learning. That way, they are much more likely to remember what they learned.

Botany

I have always found plants interesting. So much of our current sciences (taxonomy, genetics, epidemiology) relate back to plants! I have a Minor in botany and a major in Biology. My minor includes hours of fieldwork in the Smokies and lots of botany labs.

Chemistry

Chemistry is simply problem solving. Once you know the "tricks of the trade", you can easily find the moles you need, balance the equation or find the percent mass of a compound. I am good at helping students use the tricks I have practiced and taught to make the subject easier to understand.

Ecology

The environment is all around us and our understanding of it is critical for our future. I have taught Ecology or Environmental Science for more than 5 years. I will make the study of the environment interesting and tangible for your student.

Elementary (K-6th)

I understand children and what they need to be successful. One student might need to move around to learn the information and another might need to draw colorful pictures. I like to see how the student learns and then help then tutor them using these methods. Kids like working with me because I make them feel successful. I have a BA in Biology and MS in Science Education.

Elementary Science

Children naturall love science and love to experiment. My own 10 year old has experiments going on all over our house! I will share my excitement of science with your child and help he or she better grasp science content. I was recently in charge of a school wide Science Fair at my daughter's elementary school that involved more than 800 students.

Grammar

Using correct grammar is very important in presenting yourself as an educated and confident person. Using grammar and sentence structure correctly is important in saying "what you mean to say exactly" OR "exactly what you mean to say". (Get it?)

As an experienced teacher who has graded dozens and dozens of research papers, I have helped student write and speak grammar correctly. I can also make it fun.

Physical Science

I have taught Physical Science, Honors Physical Science and Physics in both middle and high school. I use "hand-on" examples to make the material easy to understand and learn.

PSAT

What are the skills needed to do well on the PSAT vs the SAT vs the SSAT? As a K-12 teacher & college instructor for 27 years, I can help your child understand the difference.

I genuinely enjoy helping students better themselves. I will treat your child as an individual and apply learning strategies based on his/her strengths. Please allow me the opportunity to help your student reach his/her goals.

SAT Reading

Did you know that by improving this category, this is one of the easiest ways to improve your overall SAT score? I can help you improve your reading level and vocabulary understanding with games and other user friendly methods.

SAT Writing

100% of my SAT students have improved their writing scores (based on reviews)!!

I teach my students a simple strategy on how to write the essay and then we practice, practice, practice!!

Spelling

Spelling our language involves several strategies. I teach students to become better “spellers” by utilizing many of these ideas. Latin prefixes/suffixes & roots are important to know since English is based on Latin and one can determine both the spelling and the meaning of many words from the Latin. (As a science teacher for 20 + years, I always begin my class with learning Latin.) Phonics of course is important and I learned to spell phonetically as a child. I am also a visual learner and I often show students terms written out in syllables in pictorial form. This helps the right brained student to “see” the word when thinking of how to spell it. As a tutor, I would find what works best for use child and use this method to make your student a better speller.

SSAT

I have recently taken courses in Study Skills, Helping Boys Do Better in School and preparing for the ACT versus the SAT. I received a college scholarship based on my college prep test scores.

Quotes from parent of SSAT students:

"Thank you so much!!!! He is loving every minute." SU in Kennesaw on 3/13

"My daughter scored 2098. Your help was invaluable!!!!" DE in Kennesaw on 2/14

Study Skills

Experienced teachers recognize that students learn in many different ways & I want to accommodate what is best for my student personally. I use numerous proven educational strategies which I have practiced in my 23 years of teaching. I use a variety of methodologies to find what works best for the individual student.

Vocabulary

I believe understanding word meaning is about breaking the word down into easier to comprehend parts. I have several methods to assist my students in understanding vocabulary including reviewing the meaning of the prefix/suffix or root of the word, making the term applicable to their life and using many of the same strategies I use with SAT prep. I show them the power of having an expanded vocabulary.

Very Patient, Very Creative and Passionate for Teaching I was in need of a tutor in short order for my high school teen. We had a mixed bag of activities and things came up and before I realized it I was receiving the SAT admission ticket! My son had been studying on his own for several weeks but I was not confident that he had all the tools to pull things together. I had used the service in the past and thought let me put the word out that I had a wee ...
