College Faculty Member Completing Master's in Professional Writing

Dear Parents and Students,

I am pleased to announce that I have decided to become a private tutor through WyzAnt. I come backed with over four years' experience teaching and tutoring English. I am completing my Master of Arts in Professional Writing degree in composition and rhetoric this summer from Kennesaw State University, where I also graduated magna cum laude with my Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

I am currently an adjunct instructor of learning support English at Chattahoochee Technical College in Marietta. I teach sections of approximately twenty students, emphasizing the writing process, paragraph development, moving from paragraph to essay, and grammar and punctuation. I also prepare students for the COMPASS exit test in writing at the end of the semester, which students must pass in order to advance to college-level English courses. In addition to classroom instruction, I tutor students one-on-one at our Student Success Center in areas ranging from writing to general coursework to test preparation. I am a passionate, conscientious teacher who goes out of her way to help her students realize their goals. I love being part of an organization that gives everyone the opportunity to experience an education and further his or her life.

Furthermore, I also teach first-year composition at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw. I provide classroom instruction to sections of approximately twenty-six students, emphasizing content and organization, grammar and punctuation, style, and rhetorical effectiveness. I have also tutored students at our Writing Center and conducted writer's workshops on topics including punctuation use and research and citation.

I specialize in English composition and grammar, academic research and citation, and MLA and APA Style. I am also comfortable assisting students with test prep, including but not limited to ACT English and Reading, COMPASS Reading and Writing, and the GED. Lastly, I can assist students with their college preparation materials (essays, cover letters, etc.). I look forward to meeting you and helping you to achieve your dreams.

Vocabulary

I used to teach developmental or remedial reading at the college where I work. Much of the curriculum emphasized the development of vocabulary through the use of context clues as well as knowledge of synonyms and antonyms. Being an English major, I also have an extensive knowledge of vocabulary.

Grammar

I am backed by over four years' experience teaching learning support English at a two-year technical college, where the course curriculum emphasizes, among other interests, grammar and proofreading.

I use MS Word just about every day of my life. I am highly skilled in this program.

I create PowerPoint presentations on a regular basis for classroom instruction.

English

I hold a B.A. in English, and I am completing my master's in professional writing. I have over four years' experience teaching English and tutoring English and reading at one public four-year university and one public two-year technical college. I am proficient in English composition and grammar and proofreading. I can also assist with larger, researched-based projects as I am also experienced in both MLA and APA Style.

Literature

I have read several pieces of literature, having taken advanced literature courses throughout high school and having completed a degree in English in college. Specifically, I am well-versed in 19th-Century British literature.

Proofreading

I write and edit for a living. I also have several years' experience teaching students to become better proofreaders since I teach developmental or learning support English classes.

Spelling

I have always been a very good speller. I won the spelling bee in fifth grade, and I majored in English and currently teach the subject.

ACT English

I am comfortable helping students prepare for the ACT Test in English. The classes I currently teach have a test-prep component (the COMPASS).
