I have been teaching in one situation or another for 30 years. I've spent the last ten years teaching performing arts full time at The Westminster Schools in Atlanta, Georgia. I have worked as a professional actor, director and choreographer as well as a teacher, but I truly love teaching and watching the growth in confidence that happens when I work with students. I work to help learning take place in multiple ways so the skills and knowledge are learned on a much deeper level and are retained much longer. I love working with students with ADD/ADHD or who just need a more kinetic and physical learning environment. I can tutor in all areas of theatre arts and dance. I have a perfect track record with getting college applicants into their performing arts school of choice. I also do interview coaching. I can tutor in the areas of literature, especially strong with Shakespeare; writing and playwriting, public speaking and speech writing, dance and choreography, history, etc.

Ballet

I am a former professional dancer with extensive training in ballet, jazz, modern, ballroom and many other forms of dance. I was the founding faculty member for the dance program at The Westminster Schools and have taught dance and movement for Florida State and Emory Universities, among others. I have decades of training and experience teaching a wide variety of dance styles and genres.

Ballroom Dancing

I am a former Southeastern Regional Junior Ballroom Champion in the Swing, Foxtrot and ChaCha. I have a degree in theatre from Florida State University with a minor in dance. I was a professional dancer for 20 years and currently work as a professional actor, director and choreographer in addition to teaching others. I can teach the Swing, Foxtrot, ChaCha, Rhumba, Salsa, Waltz, Tango and many dances from other historical periods of time.

English

I have special interest and experience with Shakespeare, theatrical literature and history and training in teaching playwrighting, script analysis and literary analysis.

Proofreading

I have a lot of experience working with developing writers. I love reading all types of writing work. I have worked as a proofreader in my earlier years. I also have a lot of experience working with playwrights on the development of new plays.

Public Speaking

I have taught public speaking and speech writing for the last 4 years. I am a professional actor and speaker, with a lot of experience performing Shakespeare with added experience in singing and musical theatre. I have been part of a team that develops public speaking programs for business people. My students have won competitions year after year, including winning first or second place every year for five years in the English Speaking Union's Shakespeare competition.

Reading

I love working with young readers and writers. I specialize in working with their own learning styles and developing an approach that makes reading and writing fun and freeing for the student. Quite often, I use a kinesthetic or movement oriented approach to helping students who are just learning to read and write or who want to grow and improve their skills. I even have ways of working through writers block.

Salsa Dancing

I am a former competitive ballroom dancer with experience in many Latin dances including Salsa, Tango, Rhumba, ChaCha and Samba. I can teach the basic steps along with turns, advanced partnering and lifts.

SSAT

I have a lot of experience coaching kids for the SSAT testing. I taught for 11 years at Westminster and I have a lot of experience working with multiple learning styles and students that get nervous during standardized tests. I use a very active approach to improving these test scores.

Theatre

I have a BA in Theatre from Florida State University. I have a major in acting and minors in dance and vocal performance. I have been a professional actor, director and choreographer for the last 30 years. I was the co-founder of the Horizons Teen Ensemble. I have taught for more than 30 years. I currently teach theatre, acting, dance, and public speaking at The Westminster Schools. I have a long history of audition coaching and placing acting students with the university of their choice.
