I love helping students understand their subjects! Sometimes that understanding is gained through real world examples, other times, it comes by learning and practicing the steps, in order.
I look forward to listening to your concerns, evaluating where you are as a student, and helping you get a breakthrough in understanding. Sometimes the answer is as simple as encouraging you and helping you destroy the 'I'm not good at this' barrier!
I have experience in quite a few different arenas, including fast-food, small business, auto maintenance, industrial manufacturing, non-profits, home construction, STEM education, and classroom math and science instruction, all of which I can use to help you see the value in what you're learning and relate it to real life situations.
Science and math are my strengths, and I had some great teachers over the years. Because of this, I can help you enjoy some of the tougher subjects like I do. You can do it, and I am happy to help.
Availability: In the new year, I will be available during the day mostly, as well as some times Tuesday through Friday in the evening. Let me know how I can help! I do not offer last minute test prep to new students. Thank you for your understanding.
Stephen really got me started on my journey. I appreciate his patience and attentiveness to my specific needs. I would certainly recommend him to other students. He even made me flashcards to help me, wow what a helpful tool!
Stephen was excellent at responding to my emails in a very timely matter. Also, with just a of couple days time line, he was able to accommodate us with my son's schedule and help him with his college algebra. My son felt very comfortable with him and felt he helped him a great deal. I would use him again for sure!!!
We are really impressed by Stephen. He is very thoughtful and considers the subject from all angles. He is great at communicating with us, flexible, and enthusiastic. We highly recommend him!
Stephen was honestly the only reason I was able to pass my math class. I say this with confidence; due to the fact my teacher taught us by PowerPoints. Which came with the book, with all the problems solved. The teacher would ask: "who thinks they know the answer?". Finding the answer only took a look down at the printed PowerPoint given by the teacher. Needless to say, I needed to get help elsewhere. I came across Stephen. He knew how to solve all the problems I needed help with. He went through the steps at a pace I needed him to go. He is also very knowledgeable with the calculator. I would recommend Stephen if you are looking for an effective math tutor.
Your first problem in getting a tutor lined up will be getting someone to return your inquiries. Stephen Z is not one of these. He returned my inquiry quickly and arranged for him to come out to tutor my son over the course of a few months for two hours per week.
He was always on time, very flexible when we needed him to be, and was prepared. He had an uphill battle because my son was not at all interested in SAT prep so there was only so much poor Stephen could really do. Even so, my son's score went from a low of 480 to a high (a real SAT test) of 560, and thankfully (praise God!) he's been accepted at an accredited college for next fall. I am sure that with a willing and interested student Stephen could help a student much more.
Stephen is a quiet, nonassuming, helpful respectful man. His rate is very fair and he was very fair about tracking his time tutoring my son. We had an incident in our neighborhood that made the local news and as a trained minister Stephen called to make sure we were OK and didn't need any support.
My son has been struggling with Math for a long time - As an ADHD child his level of focus is not strong enough to pay enough attention in class to catch on within the allotted time in class. Since the public school system does not offer after school help in Cobb county, he needed a tutor. Stephen is calm, patient, EXTREMELY smart and understands how to make math easy. I highly recommend him as he is truly the first tutor that has gotten through to my child and that my son will actually go to without putting up a fight. Thank you Stephen for being so awesome!
Stephen was a great tutor who helped me through Chemistry II. My professors approach did nothing for me which left me feeling like I wasn't able to handle it. This tutor provided me with a variety of ways to learn what was necessary, restoring my confidence in the subject and my grade.
Stephen has been excellent in helping me understand Microsoft Access by understanding where my knowledge is lacking and helping me gain a better understanding. He has given me a great building blocks so I can take my work further.
Stephen Z was great and his patience with me works well. I would recommend any day. He is prompt and makes you feel at ease. No question is stupid. I will call on him again.
He will explain the information different ways until you understand it. He was extremely patient, has a great personality, and he has a positive outlook on life. He is very encouraging and great to work with!
Stephen is helping my 8th grade daughter with Math. This is here first year doing virtual schooling and was falling behind in Math. Stephen was very patient, kind, and helped my daughter quite a bit. We are looking forward to having him continue tutoring. I highly recommend Stephen.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
This is one of my favorite subjects. And I'm glad to help you understand this foundational subject.
Building on Algebra 1 is strange since so much of what's covered in this class seems very different. But I will gladly help you conquer it.
I was raised in a Christian home, and my parents sent me to elementary and high schools that required Bible study and interpretation, as well as memorization.
From there, I went through college, and then on to Seminary, where I gained a Masters of Divinity. I am familiar with Biblical Greek and Hebrew, but am not fluent enough to teach them. I continue to read and study the Word, and have a lot of experience explaining texts, challenging prevailing stereotypes and assumptions, and helping students find deeper meaning in the Word as well as practical application to real life.
Chemistry seems foreign to many people. If you can cut through the language barrier, you'll see that it's mostly just applied algebra in a setting that teaches you about the building blocks of everything. I have always been fascinated by Chemistry and look forward to helping you understand it.
I have worked with MS-DOS ever since I started using computers in 1994. It used to be a powerful backbone system, but in later versions of Windows is less and less important.
But that doesn't mean it's not still useful!
I can teach you the basics of DOS and help you learn how to use its commands to accomplish small tasks and begin to develop batch files. If you need expert programming help, you will need to find someone who has more of that experience. But if you want to clear up the fog on the subject or get over some intimidation, I can help!
Economics a set of theories about how people operate with each other in order to get what they want and need. We deal with econ every day when we see gas prices and grocery bills, as well as when we choose majors and work with children. Seem like a stretch? I'd be happy to help you understand both Macro and Micro Economics.
Are you confused by the worksheets your child brings home from school and why they might try to train your child that way? I have experience teaching children number sense and I can help your child gain confidence in math and understand the building blocks for future learning.
I purchased my first PC way back in 1995, and have been poking around with them ever since. I can help you with finding features in Windows operating systems, simple maintenance procedures to help keep your system running well, and explain the functions and parts of your PC machine. I used to build my own desktop systems, so I can even help you learn more about how things work on the inside if you like.
I am well versed in the basics of Microsoft Access. I have never been trained on it; everything I've learned has come through business applications I've been assigned and personal hobby databases I've developed. I look forward to new challenges, as they help me learn, and I would love to pass on what I know as well as grow to the next level. I have learned a great deal about the Visual Basic background functions of Access, and am just starting to use SQL statements to make my programs smaller.
I have developed programs that successfully:
* catalog, organize, and play mp3s as well as write playlists for an mp3 collection
* determine manning requirements for an industrial plant based on product forecasts
* print, catalog, and store QS / ISO job descriptions
* hold journal and blog entries securely
* inventory household items and make it easier to track locations in a move
How can I help you get to the next level of Access learning?
I have used Microsoft Excel and related spreadsheets since the 1900s! I've learned how to use these programs through trial and error and reading tip articles and talking with friends. In college, I even started learning how to build custom interfaces and command buttons using Visual Basic in Excel.
I can help you learn keyboard shortcuts, how to format cells and pages, and use functions to unleash the power of this program for whatever you might like to use it for.
PowerPoint is a great way to build presentations and diagrams quickly and easily. I have experience ranging from simple house diagrams and signs to automatically timed full-tilt presentations with video and music. Chances are I can help you find the functions you need and become confident with this program.
I can help you with Microsoft Publisher. It is a great program for producing booklets, bulletins, papers, and more. It has some awesome features that make it way more useful than Word.
I used to produce our church's weekly bulletins using the program. If you'd like help, feel free to contact me - but I can help you best if you have specific ideas in mind for what you can produce.
I have used Microsoft Windows products since my first computer came installed with Windows 3.11. I am very familiar with 95, 98 and XP, and my current computer has Vista.
I can help you navigate your way around all of these operating systems, as well as Windows 7, especially if you are just starting out on the road to loving computers and the helpful tools they are.
Word is a great program for building documents from simple one page letters to thousand page books. There are many features included that most have no idea about - I can help you learn some of these features to maximize productivity and minimize head-aching frustration.
Did you know you can build a form letter in Word and then, using an appropriate mailing list, email or print any number of them at a time? I can teach you how...
In my role as pastor and youth leader, I regularly speak to groups. I can help you feel more comfortable with group speaking and help you with techniques for presentations, speeches, and delivering papers.
I took a speech class in high school, but the majority of my insight comes from experience.
Trigonometry can be intimidating. But when you get the fundamentals down, everything starts to fall into place. I can help you get through the learning curve and make sense of the sometimes confusing language.
I can help you with the unit circle, angle trigonometry, conversions, radians and angles, trig identities and more.
