I have tutored informally for years, and when an opportunity came along to specialize in SAT preparation, I jumped on it. I have tutored students individually and in groups with success. I have studied experts and have learned to guide the student to learning the material and understanding the methodologies used by the College Board in preparing test questions.
I conduct a brief interview to determine the student’s current standing (has he or she taken the SAT before? In which area(s) is improvement desired?), then formulate a plan to achieve the specified goals. I prefer to meet in local libraries, but I can be flexible in times and places to meet the needs of the student.
As a recent summa cum laude graduate I realize it takes dedication to overcome obstacles. Higher SAT scores can improve college acceptance, and techniques learned can improve study habits and scholastic achievement. Significant improvement can be achieved through guidance and student participation.
I look forward to hearing from you! The next exam is coming up, so let’s get started!
English can be daunting, but becoming familiar (and comfortable with) a few concepts (when to use an adjective, when an adverb or choosing an acceptable transition, for instance) can lead to improved results on an ACT exam.
Proper grammar is always appropriate, and these tools can only benefit students and future employees! I teach grammar skills with a focus on those most useful for ACT challenges.
I specialize in preparing students for the SAT. The ACT math adds trigonometry to the mix, and I have refreshed my trigonometry skills to better address needs in this area. The skills and techniques that enable the student to score his or her best on the test also work well with the ACT format. I help the student build the self-reliance needed to attack the problems with confidence!
Reading comprehension can be improved by practice, breaking down passages to find the main points and understand the details. While a good vocabulary is beneficial, I can demonstrate techniques that improve the ACT reading result. For instance, eliminating choices leads to more correct answers. Improved confidence can reduce the nervousness that causes students to rush and misread the text. A student adroitly applying these techniques will improve his or her score on the ACT reading exam.
I recently completed my bachelor of science degree in information technology. Working with computers requires a sound mathematical background. I have had the opportunity to tutor students in algebra and geometry with great success.
I love math and tutoring. It is truly gratifying when students begin to understand and even enjoy math!
I enjoy math, especially algebra and geometry. My work teaching SAT skills to high school students gave me an opportunity to refresh and deepen my mathematical expertise. Seeing the math problems from different perspectives allows me try alternative approaches until I find one that works well for that student.
I love math and tutoring. It is a great joy when students begin to understand and even enjoy math!
I have worked in the IT industry for years. I recently graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology, Software Development focus. I have programmed in Java and C#; my Capstone project was written in C# using the Visual Studio environment. I have used Visual Studio to work on C# and Visual Basic projects.
I have an excellent foundation in programming and experience with Java, Visual Basic, and C#.
Understanding math in the elementary grades is the key to doing well in the future. I give students two or three different ways to look at problems; this helps them see the big picture. This builds confidence and helps them to master the more difficult techniques when they are introduced.
I graduated summa cum laude in May of 2012 with a BS degree in information technology, software development concentration. My coursework included networks, software testing and quality assurance, and advanced programming. I interned for one semester at an IT support company, assisting customers with viruses, corrupted files, and software installation. This work helped give me a good general knowledge of computers to augment my software training.
I have been preparing Georgia high school students for the SAT exam, and more than a quarter of the math questions are based on geometry and measurements. Doing well on the SAT depends in part on recognizing ways to reach the correct answer quickly. Finding more than one way to approach a complex problem can improve solution time and help ensure the answer is correct. These techniques require the thorough understanding of geometry that comes from broad experience with a wide variety of problems.
I have a strong background in correct grammar usage, sharpened by working with students on SAT exams. Writing should also progress in a logical fashion, with ideas supported by salient detail. Excellent thought is discounted if it is not also couched in correct grammar.
I have been working as an SAT preparation instructor for Georgia high school students. To qualify for this position I needed a recent SAT score, so I took the test and scored 2200 (including a perfect 800 on the reading comprehension section). While there is no substitute for mastering the subjects, there are some insights into the College Board’s perspective that can help students score better on this standardized test. I help the student master the topic and understand the reasoning behind the questions.
I needed a current SAT score to qualify for an SAT preparation instructor, so I prepared for and then took the SAT. I scored 2200 (including a perfect 800 in reading comprehension). This gave me insight into the techniques to improve an SAT score. I also have experience with the nervousness that can negatively impact performance and techniques to overcome the problem. I can teach these techniques that will enable the student to do his or her best on the test!
The writing section is a fairly new addition to the SAT spectrum and comprises a full third of the overall score. In this section a few basic ideas can really improve a student’s score. The lessons learned, to think logically and form arguments persuasively, help with the SAT and improve the important talent of written communication skills.
I specialize in SAT instruction. The writing portion requires mastery of the fundamentals (grammar skills, verb-subject agreement, recognizing and using parallel construction) and a strong vocabulary.
Once sentences are fundamentally sound they need to be sequenced logically. Supporting arguments should be arranged in their most persuasive order. Conclusions should follow from the arguments and nail home the main idea. I use these ideas to help students improve their writing skills.
Sally Has the Patience of a Saint! — Sally has been most helpful with my algebra. If she explained the Algebra problem one way and I didn't get it, she had two or three other ways to explain it. She is great, and what makes her different from other teacher or tutors is that she has a passion for helping her students succeed. I'm more confident now in my algebra because of working with Sally. ...
