I majored in mathematics at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. I earned an honorary mathematics key.
After 3 years of study, I entered medical school at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. I continued to take courses in bio-statistics and eventually did a residency at Emory university Hospitals in Atlanta, Georgia.
I am retired as a physician and hope to start my second career in teaching mathematics. I pride myself in getting the student enthusiastic about his work, and understanding concepts. I break down problems to smaller steps or more basic concepts so student can eventually understand the larger concept.
I realize learning certain concepts can be frustrating and difficult, and I am willing to spend whatever time it takes. If a student still has difficulty understanding the principles, I have concrete methods so the student can solve most of the problems.
I find it a privilege to assist anyone in mastering mathematics.
I have been successful in raising my students over a quartile in the ACT and over 70 points in the SAT. I can evaluate which test would be better suited for my student. Regardless, my methods of teaching have successfully helped my students master many skills. I have many past examinations and worksheets to allow my students to improve their test taking skills. One of my best techniques is taking a complex problem and reducing it to basic concepts. I have worked with dyslexic students
and have been very successful.
I have tutored students who have raised their SAT math scores by 80 points. These student had scores from 470-550. One student had a learning disability. I majored in mathematics in college and received an honorary key in this subject. I appreciate the opportunity to tutor your child.
Dear Parents and Students,
Algebra 1 is the cornerstone for higher mathematics. It involves the concepts of prealgebra as well as many new concepts. It can feel almost overwhelming in trying to master these skills. Oftentimes, one concept is quickly introduced after another. I go over each concept and progress at the rate of the student. Sometimes just repeating the exercises in a slightly different way is all that is necessary for success. Some of the students have raised their grade two levels.
Thank you for allowing me the privilege to tutor your child.
Algebra 2 does not have to be frustrating!
Some students might not have mastered the concepts of algebra 1. We go over certain principles and fill in any gaps, making algebra 2 easily mastered.
I have devised many approaches so the student can select the best one for him.
I enjoyed tutoring all levels of mathematics. I have taught basic and advanced geometry, including coordinate geometry and trigonometry. In my profession as a doctor, geometry was especially valuable in statistical research.
With the advent of new math, students can become very frustrated. Do not be discouraged! I have worksheets and websites that brake down complex problems to straight forward solutions. In college I tutored many people in advanced algebra only to find difficulties in basic geometry. I found this equally true when I tutored algebra on this website.
Geometry can be frustrating. Geometry is different from algebra There are many equations, many dimensional concepts.
I have simplified the approach to understanding different principles.
I would be honored to be your tutor.
I would be privileged to be your tutor. I am a retired physician who graduated from University of Cincinnati Medical School in 1971. I specialized in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Pain Medicine, and limitedly in Sports Medicine. I majored in Mathematics at Northwestern University. During my medical career, I used bio-statistics and other forms of mathematics. I have many nursing friends, and I shared
their frustration in problem solving. Please do not be discouraged; I am able to simplify mathematical problems for easy comprehension. I also have a wealth of medical knowledge, which I would like to share with you.
Thank you for considering me as a tutor,
ear Parents and Students,
Prealgebra is the cornerstone to algebra. Fundamental concepts need to be mastered to succeed in higher mathematics. I have devised " worksheets" to identify what areas the student needs to improve in to ensure success.
Often, the student needs assistance in only a few areas to prepare him/her for his journey into algebra. I have had students greatly benefit from my tutoring.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to be your tutor.
My sub specialty in mathematics was probability theory. I took additional classes in medical school to advance my knowledge in this area. I have tutored students who have raised their SAT math scores by 80 points. These students had scores from 470-550. One student had a learning disability. Additionally to raising their tests scores, they improved at least one grade point in high school mathematics.
I majored in mathematics in college and received an honorary key in this subject. I appreciate the opportunity to tutor your child.
The PSAT can be formidable since you have not been exposed to these types of questions.
I will help you identify problem areas and offer various strategies to solve these problems. Getting an early start by preparing for the PSAT will maximize your performance on the SAT.
Thank you for considering me as a tutor!
I have tutored students for the SAT and with general reading problems. With the SAT, my students accrued an additional 75-100 points in the reading section. I have taught many students with various reading conditions, such as dyslexia. At age six, my son was being considered by teachers not able to read. The teachers and I devised a plan; he graduated from college passing all required English classes.
My son originally was in a special school where we both were exposed to different learning techniques (such as auditory and visual). These techniques helped not only my son but also the students I later tutored.
The math SAT can be a difficult test. It requires both math and some VERBAL skills. Sometimes solving the problem is not hard if the student knows what is being asked. I offer strategies to all aspects of problem solving.
Because the questions are mostly multiple choice, I expose the students to different ways to solve the question: process of elimination, abstract reasoning, graphic representation, etc. It is not unusual for my students to achieve 60-85 more points with short term tutoring. Thank you for reading my profile.
Dear Parents and Students,
The SAT in reading is less formidable as it seems.
It consists understanding vocabulary. IF THE WORDS ARE UNDERSTOOD, SENTENCE COMPLETION IS EASILY COMPLETED.
I was considering to be an interpreter and have mastered certain skills that I would gladly share.
A bonus is that by improving reading skills , one improves vocabulary skills.
thank you for considering me as a tutor.
Vocabulary can be fun. I received the highest score on a standardized test of twelfth grade students. I was considering being an interpreter. From these languages, I learned the roots of many English words.
Once a student has learned a core set of words, he can easily develop an impressive
vocabulary. I have tutored many students who had a limited knowledge of words in college who later became journalists.
Great tutor, very thorough — Bruce is an awesome tutor! He is patient and gives positive feedback. He doesn't expect you to know everything from the beginning. He also takes his time and make sure you understand. Very encouraging and smart. Thanks again, Bruce!! ...
