NETSH allows you to change information regarding how your computer connects to the network, but is primarily used for resetting information through winsock through the command "netsh winsock reset catalog"
NETSTAT displays all connections through a port on your computer, lists which protocol that connection is using ( TCP/UDP ), The local address of the connection that is being utilized, and exactly which port that connection is utilizing on the computer.
CHKDSK, or Check disk, initiates a disk scan for the specified drive. It is commonly used to fix file system errors on a certain drive.
TRACERT, or Trace route, sends a data packet to the remote address and records the time it takes to reach its destination, while also recording any node or "hop" along the way.
Windows is cake. I can do anything from managing registry information through regedit to disabling services in Computer management. I can also use msconfig to keep certain services or tasks from not executing during startup.

Basic networking works like so:
A computer connects to the internet after receiving an ip address from a cable modem. After the computer attains an IP address the user navigates to an internet browser and accesses the internet.
Upon typing in a website the computer uses TCP protocols to connect to the DNS server to figure out exactly where the website the user is trying to access is located, and what its IP address is.
The DNS server after locating this information routes information retrieval packets from the computer to the destination computer. After the information retrieval packets arrive at the designated website's server, the server identifies what information the user wants to access based on the URL the user typed into his browser. Once a server has identified this information it begins forwarding information to the user's computer. In a few moments the website displays and the user is free to access any other website that he needs to.
