I have been a professional writer and a writing/English/grammar instructor for 35 years. I realize that many people struggle with some of the more basic writing skills. That's okay. English is a bear of a language, and many of the rules of effective communication are shifting with the internet. (Example: Is it "e-mail" or "email"? Answer: Either way, but be consistent.)

That is not to say that grammar rules are arbitrary. Many are carved in stone, and the foundation of effective writing is to know the fundamentals.

Most of all, I believe that learning effective writing can be fun ... or at least interesting. JRI

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Marketing

I have been a "marketeer" for companies large and small since 1985, helping them identify their competitive advantages and create and execute effective, powerful brands. I help companies clients create and revise direct marketing materials for mail, internet and blogs.

Public Speaking

The art of effective verbal communication is crucial to success in business and other activities involving others. While many people are uncomfortable (sometimes even terrified) about speaking in public, the skills are easily learned and applied.

I have been doing public speaking -- for convention audiences, business meetings, seminars and testimonials -- for decades. The key is organization, research, and practice, practice, practice.

Writing

I am a professional writer and business journalist. I have authored five books and somewhere between 2,000 and 3,000 articles for publication. Now semi-retired, I also teach writing, grammar and proofreading.
