Photography has been my passion since my early teens. My tutoring & teaching abilities began developing very shortly after taking my first course in photography, when the instructor asked if I was interested in assisting him for his next class. Throughout high school I stayed focused on photography and there too found myself assisting the instructors and tutoring fellow classmates as well as students in other classes. I joined the U.S. Army as a photographer, and upon graduating from The School of Photography at Lowery AFB in Denver, I was asked to stay on as an instructor there. A year into teaching at Lowery, I was reassigned to Fort Gilliam in Atlanta as a Pysop. Unit's photographer. Now, back in my hometown, I also began a 19 year employment with Atlanta based Wolf Camera. During the nearly two decades with Wolf Camera I was given the opportunity to stay on the leading edge of the most rapid and dramatic changes to photography in its 100 years, with the advancements of autofocus, the developments in videography, and the entire industry changing introduction and succession of digital photography and videography. My people skills only grew stronger in this retail environment, as originally one would be hired based more on their knowledge and teaching ability more than their salesmanship due to the lack of automation in cameras. Each sale was lesson in photography, including complex instructions on the camera being purchased followed by more impromptu instructions as returning customers developed further skills. As technology presented more automation and general photography became simpler, I moved away from sales and store management and gravitated toward the training of new hires and teaching small company sponsored classes for the public. During, these years with Wolf Camera, I successfully established myself as a very sought after event videographer. Because of my skills and success I was often asked to instruct classes for other colleagues by the AVA (Atlanta Videographers Association) and the national organization WEVA (Wedding and Event Videographers Association).
2010 through 2013 brought many changes to my career and my life as a whole. The bankruptcy and eventual demise of Wolf Camera, had me focusing fully on my videography, which now was showing a growing demand in movie film and video tape transfer services. A divorce, the passing of the three family members, and my unfortunate misjudgment of character in a new partner and business venture, has me continuing with photography, the video transfer services, and private tutoring of photo and video related subjects.
I am very pleased to have found WyzAnt and am thrilled to be once again sharing my knowledge and assisting others to gain a better understanding in photography, camera techniques, videography, shooting styles and practices, video editing, and pre and post production.
I am very patient with all students and am quick to recognize one's level of understanding. I do have a small home office in Flowery Branch in which I offer individual tutoring, however I do often travel to the student or group of students when other locations have been desired and approved.
I do offer discounted rates for multiple sessions, small groups, and tutoring at my location. Please feel free to inquire about these offers upon scheduling an appointment with me.
I do have a 24hr cancellation policy, and on the rarest chance of it happening, I would extend the same courtesy. I do, in most cases, gladly accept a make up date on most cancellations done within 24hrs.
I am looking forward to hearing from you, and to helping you with your photo and or video related studies, or needs in order to gain a better understanding.
Please contact me through WyzAnt with any further questions that you may have about myself or how my tutoring may be of service to you.
I was trained in the US Army as a 84Bravo (still photographer), (the equivalent of a bachelor's degree) after my tour of duty, I managed a retail camera store for 19 years. While acting as a store manager, it was also necessary that I be able to teach the basics of image capture and development to my employees, camera operations to my sales persons as well as my customers. On average, about every eight to ten weeks I would hold an evening class or two for customers that wanted more than just snapshots out of their cameras. Photography is my passion, career and the focus of my life.
In managing a retail camera store for nineteen years I also had to become very familiar with the video equipment I sold. I also had a very successful wedding and event videotaping company that started out as a hobby in the early 1990's then became the reason for leaving the retail business. I was on of the first in Atlanta to use computer based nonlinear editing as well as one of the first to encode, author, and burn DVDs. I still maintain a portion of my video business but, very little event shooting. Now the bulk of my video business is in transferring movie film and old video formats to DVDs or encoded to current file formats for computer and web applications.
