My tutoring experience is limited to 2 years of participating in the federal government's "America Reads" tutoring program while I was attending college. The program targeted 2nd and 3rd graders that were falling behind in reading skills. I utilized tutoring methods outlined by the program itself, though I successfully improvised a little of my own methods, obtaining very positive results and feedback from the teachers.
For the past almost 12 years I have been a contract analytical linguist working mostly for many state and federal law enforcement agencies, mostly our Drug Enforcement Administration, monitoring their court-ordered wire taps when it came to Spanish-speaking targets. I provided real-time interpreting, subsequent translated written reports and many times court-ready translated transcripts of the recorded sessions. I have also held supervisory positions within the same line of work, being very successful in augmenting productivity, training, mentoring, and being a role model for new recruits. I am certainly capable of tutoring in Spanish and being an example when it comes to responsibilities and values.
Prior to delving into this particular and exciting industry, I was an Information Technology professional and I possess an educational background in Electronics and Computer Science which are math-intensive courses. I have always been mathematically inclined and further was one to assist my peer students in math back in my school days.
As extracurriculars, I have always been very inclined to music, being a front man and rhythm guitarist (self-taught) in two different alternative rock bands for many years up until my two beautiful twin daughters were born a little over three years ago. I have also performed solo. I wrote lyrics and composed most of the music while being in my old band. Since I was the age of 12 I have always been inclined to writing poetry, mostly about myself and my views of the world given my experience. I can positively convey and exemplify to a student the rewards of being able to express oneself regardless of their future career choice. Given my technical background, I also got into producing professional-grade recordings using Pro Tools-like software and professional gear, obtaining extensive knowledge and teachable skills in that realm too.
I obtained my Spanish language skills finishing elementary school, attending high school and technical vocational school in Buenos Aires, Argentina where I lived for 13 years before coming back to the U.S. to go to college. Living in Argentina, I learned to play and love soccer. I have gotten to play at a semi-professional level for 2 years prior to coming back home to the U.S..
I possess a unique combination of teachable skills and I feel I could be a great multi-faceted tutor to your child. I will be more than happy to address any further questions you, the parent, may have and my resume is available upon request.
