Children's Author and pre-school teacher

I have three years of coursework at Augusta State University in Childhood Educaton and Psychology.I started, owned and operated an educational child care center in the Atlanta area for 6 years.I then worked for Department of Family and Children's Services for 24 years.Currently I have developed a reading readiness class that I take into local child care centers.I, along with my daughter, the illustrator, have written and published two children's values-series books, THE BIG BOLD LIE and THE PURPLE TROUBLE. Our third book is out to market.I am very excited about helping your child learn the joys of reading and writing!!

Reading

I teach reading by starting with the basics of alphabet, upper and lower case letters, as well as phonics, using an electronic word whammer. I also use a lot of hands-on tactile items, as well as rhyming and nonrhyming books to be read by the student by filling in words until the whole book is accomplished. I also use sight words that are expected in kindergarten and first grade. I write children's books and am so very interested in helping children learn to read!

Elementary (K-6th)

I am qualified to teach levels K-6th (Elementary) because of my college credits and extensive work with children. I owned an educational childcare center in Atlanta and am currently teaching reading readiness to pre-school children.

Phonics

I started teaching phonics to my children and then taught at my educational child care center in Atlanta for 6 years. I have recently developed a reading readiness enrichment program which I have sold for the past 6 years to centers as an hourly class.I have also tutored first graders in phonics as the key to reading.

My theory for reading is first capital letters and then lower case, but at the same time, I teach phonics and use great educational, including electronic, resources.

Public Speaking

I had two quarters in college and made A and A plus; plus I have spoken in public for Family and Children's Services, as well as performing as a vocalist. I think I would have a lot to offer a student in confidence as well as writing speeches, as I write and publish children's books.
