I have taught special education for the past 19 years in the state of Georgia in the public school systems. Because of this experience, I have taught reading and language arts and math skills to every student that I have been in contact with. My experience has been spread evenly across the grade levels, with 6 years of teaching at the elementary level, 5 years teaching at the middle school level and 5 years of teaching at the high school level. While teaching high school students, I was assigned to co-teach in Biology classes. During the 2009-2010 school year, I completed a Reading Endorsement Program which enhances my ability to teach reading and writing skills to all grade levels of students as well as adults.
During the past five years of my teaching career, I have also worked with numerous hospital and home bound students. The assignments were given to me by their teachers and it was my responsibility to get the work to the student and then return the assignments to the teachers for grading. We were able to prepare for tests as well as administer testing when needed to accommodate the needs of the student at the time. These students had assignments in all subject areas, therefore, I was assisting them with all of the curriculum that they were assigned.
