I am currently working as an IT specialist for the Gilmer County Schools. I have taught computer lab as a para-tech for nearly 5 years in the Gilmer County School system. I have completed my teaching degree from Brenau University in Middle Grades education. My majors are Reading, English/Literature, and Social Studies. I'm thinking of adding science also as a certification area. I have tutored before in the past to help prepare students for the CRCT testing in the spring. Some of the experience has been afterschool in our computer lab with some one-on-one at the local library. I also have other students in the past I have tutored privately or through the school Homebound program.
I prefer to talk with a student and find out their learning styles. Then, I proceed to ask permission to find out their grades to discover strengths and weaknesses. In doing this, I'm able to use the students personal strengths to help improve areas of weaker knowledge in the chosen topic. I feel this helps a student to become aware of their strengths that will help to overcome anything from helping to remember facts for a test and to help later in life through higher thinking compromising events later in their personal and professional lives.
I look forward to meeting new people and working together to learn new concepts and ideas from each other. In any teaching experience, the teacher also becomes the student when taking the time to look at the individual and how to learn to grow in wisdom as the student grows in their knowledge base and confidence levels.
