Hi! I am a compassionate, patient, and creative tutor. My goal is to help students learn not only information but also about their own learning style. For example, I strive to help students discover which study environments are most stimulating or distracting, and which learning style is dominant (visual, auditory, or tactile). When a student has a better understanding of how he/she learns, his/her self-confidence and sense of empowerment increase, which positively effects how the student absorbs and incorporates information.

I have a Bachelor's in Philosophy/Religion from Queens University of Charlotte in Charlotte, NC (2007). I also have a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, GA (2012). I have been awarded numerous academic scholarships in both undergraduate and graduate school.

I have experience tutoring my peers in college and graduate school for writing, reading, philosophy, religion, art, study skills, and public speaking. I have also worked as a camp counselor and chaperone for middle-school and high-school youth. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you have a wonderful day!

Bible Studies

I have a Master of Divinity from Columbia Theological Seminary. I have studied the Bible and have translated texts from ancient Hebrew and Greek to English. I have also taken classes in Old and New Testament, theology, church history, ethics, Christian education, preaching, and pastoral care.

I have a minor in studio art from Queens University of Charlotte. My preferred mediums are drawing, acrylic painting, photography, and mixed media collage. Samples of my portfolio are available upon request. I am passionate about the creative process and am excited about sharing the fundamentals of artistic expression with others. I believe all people are creative, whether or not they know it. It is a joy to help others explore the creativity they already possess, and to provide some building blocks that strengthen their artistic skills.

Study Skills

I have a bachelor's in philosophy/religion from Queens University of Charlotte and a master of divinity degree from Columbia Theological Seminary. I have mastered my own study skills to be a successful student and have received numerous academic scholarships in both undergraduate and graduate schools. The key for teaching study skills is the improving the student's awareness of how he/she learns. For example, knowing what environments are most stimulating or distracting for them; knowing whether they learn best with background noise such as music or in complete silence; and whether they are visual, auditory, or tactile learners. My philosophy for teaching study skills is to explore with students how they learn, and to provide not only a productive atmosphere but also engage students in their unique learning style. I am creative and resourceful in "translating" lessons from a written form to suit other learning styles.

Top-Notch Instructor — Kristen has proved to be everything I wanted from an art instructor. What she's teaching me is the real practical stuff, the basics of painting that she illustrates so clearly and so expertly. I'm really getting an education in art and painting, just what I had hoped for. Also, she's amiable and personable, a real plus for a teacher. I'm well pleased with my art tutor. It couldn't have turned o ...
