Hello, and welcome to my tutorial site. I love to teach English to speakers of other languages. I've taught in Iran, in Turkey, and at a community college in Washington, D.C. I graduated from Georgetown University with a B.A. in Philosophy and Foreign Languages. While at Georgetown, I studied Spanish, Arabic and Persian. Following Georgetown, I attended UCLA where I received an M.A. in Near Eastern Languages, studying Persian, Turkish, Ottoman, Uzbek, Tajik, Kazakh and Kirghiz. I've also earned an MBA from UCLA in Finance and Accounting, and completed 24 credits in Instructional Design at the University of Maryland. Finally, I recently received a TEFL Certificate from Kennesaw State University.
My teaching experience has generally been with young adults and adults. I prefer these populations because of their dedication to their studies and because they usually have some prior experience with learning English. I realize that most school programs abroad use some variation of Grammar Translation Method to teach English. I certainly use Grammar Translation, but augmented with other methods such as Audio-Lingual and collaborative learning, so if you have a friend or another family member you'd like to include in our lessson, please feel free to invite them to join us.
TOEFL preparation is another area that I teach, and I would be happy to discuss my qualifications and method for preparing for the TOEFL exam. Please feel free to contact me for further details.
I have a list of suggested texts that I use for instruction, but if you have texts that you'd like to work from, I'm open to using any materials that are appropriate for the subject.
I do assign homework, both reading and writing, and I also conduct regular assessments to determine your progress or status within the curriculum.
Finally, I request that you provide me 24 hours notice if you are unable to meet with me at our scheduled time.
I look forward to hearing from you and to discuss the terms, conditions, and results you can expect from our association.
