I love helping children improve their reading and writing skills! All children can learn, and I believe in finding the way they learn while also maximizing strengths and boosting confidence and knowledge in areas of challenge. I have over 18 years of teaching experience in private, public, and virtual education. I hold T-6 certification in Early Childhood Education and Educational Leadership in Georgia. I have served as a classroom teacher, lead teacher/administrator and literacy coach. I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with your child!
I have taught students in all grades, kindergarten through 5th. I use a phonics based approach when working with emergent readers. I also use Fry Words and Phrases to support fluency. To help older readers struggling with comprehension, I focus on high interest text first. By emphasizing vocabulary, context clues, active reading skills, and more, students are able to find greater meaning in a given text. Reading and writing are inextricably linked, so when I work on reading skills with students I always have them complete a relevant writing activity. When working on improving writing skills with students, I begin with text that serves as inspiration and a proper example of good writing. I am a huge proponent of journal writing and require that all of my students keep a daily journal. I would be honored to have the opportunity to work with your child!
