Elementary/Middle School Math, Reading and Study Skills Tutor

I am a public school teacher. I have thirteen years of teaching experience, from primary elementary grades through high school. Most of those years were as a teacher of students with special needs. I hold an MEd from Georgia State University in learning and behavior disorders, and my BA is in liberal arts with a double major in mathematics and philosophy.

I don't believe in "teaching to the test," but rather in helping each student to reach an understanding of each topic and skill that will enrich his or her life. As Georgia moves into the Common Core standards era, working with someone who understands and works with them every day--and whose son is also a public school student--can make all the difference.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught elementary school for many years. I hold a current Georgia teaching certificate for all subjects, grades P-8.

Phonics

I hold a current reading endorsement (earned through Metro RESA). A large part of this coursework, as well as of the general and special education coursework I have completed, covered phonics instruction. I am a certified reading teacher.

Special Needs

I have an MEd in behavior and learning disorders from Georgia State University (2008) and 13 years of experience teaching students with disabilities (primarily high-incidence categories such as specific learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, and emotional/behavior disorders). My current Georgia teaching certificate is cognitive level ("highly qualified" under NCLB) for all subject areas, grades P-8.

Social Studies

I am certified by the state of Georgia in social studies instruction, grades P-8.
