A Little About Me:
I am a certified teacher in the State of Georgia with an endorsement in ESOL. I have had several years of experience teaching elementary school and tutoring Japanese to college students.
I grew up bilingual, attending school in America and spending summers with family in Japan. Teaching has always been a passion of mine and I look forward to the opportunity to tutor you or your child.
I individualize each lesson for the needs of each student. In doing so, I also make certain that the lessons are engaging. Depending on the age and subject being tutored, this is what you can expect from a session with me.
ESL/ESOL - (Real World Connections and Tactile Learning) While tutoring English as a Second Language, I make certain to make many connections to the world around the students. If a student is primarily in a business setting, then we will focus on business-related vocabulary. If a student is primarily in social settings, then we will focus on social-related vocabulary. I also use a lot of tactile learning when studying sentence structure in the English language.
Japanese - (Real World Connections and Tactile Learning) I approach Japanese much like I approach ESL. I primarily focus on teaching conversational Japanese for beginning or intermediate students. I have had years of experience tutoring students in college with a high success/pass rate.
Elementary Math and Reading - (Music, Tactile, Visual, Games, Movement) Because children have various learning styles, I make a point to have several different styles of activities for each session. To hear me sing and see me dancing with your child during a session is not uncommon. I also include many games in sessions, and most all of my lessons are hands-on activities, whether they are manipulating letters, words, numbers, or manipulatives.
I am a certified teacher with B.S.Ed. in Early Childhood Education from Georgia State University from pre-k to 6th grade. I have had 3 years of experience teaching in Public Elementary schools.
Because I have taught Kindergarten for the past two years, I have had a lot of experience teaching handwriting. I had training with the Handwriting Without Tears program. In addition to focusing on letter formation, I also focus on building fine motor skills by doing various activities that build and train the muscles in their hands.
I have taught phonics in elementary classrooms for the past two years. I have been trained in Smart Phonics, a phonics program. I tutor students who struggle with phonics. I have also studies phonics in college when attaining my Early Childhood Education degree at Georgia State University.
