Hello!

I am a tutor in the metro Atlanta area specializing in middle and high school mathematics and college entrance preparatory exams. I currently work as an Instructional Coach at a high school in Atlanta. In short, I support teachers by observing their teaching, giving feedback and providing assistance with reaching every student in their classroom. As a result, I am always working with the state curriculum and have extensive knowledge about strategies to help students learn. In recent months, the majority of my time has been spent working with the new Common Core Curriculum which has been challenging for students and teachers alike.

Prior to being an Instructional Coach, I taught high school Mathematics and Social Studies and therefore am familiar with the expectations that most instructors have of their students. I have also led my students to high levels of proficiency on both the Mathematics and Economics End of Course Tests. I also was an SAT Preparatory instructor for Kaplan. Therefore I am also well trained on the strategies that help students to succeed on college entrance standardized exams.

My tutoring methods begin first by determining the desired end goal of both the parent and student. Then I work to assess the student's current level of proficiency and any potential barriers to learning. At that time, it may useful for me to communicate with the student's instructor to ensure that our work is aligned to their classroom expectation (at parent/student discretion). Once I have this baseline information, I work within the timeline that I have to address the student need or deficiency. If I am tutoring during the summer, I will still determine the desired end goal and assess current level of proficiency but I will also look at the next course in the subject progression so that the student can work on skills that will provide a solid foundation in that course.

Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions or to receive additional information!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Geometry

I taught geometry, advanced geometry and Math I (which encompassed a large amount of geometric concepts). My end-of-course test passing rates were always greater than the school, district, and state averages.
