For over 10 years, I have tutored or taught either mathematics or science subjects at the K-12th grade level as well as providing academic support to undergraduate and graduate students. As a former Birmingham City Schools’ mathematics teacher, I taught students both at the general and advanced Pre-Algebra course level while incorporating concepts of Algebra I in their coursework to equip them for the next year’s grade level Algebra I course. Many students who were originally struggling in Pre-Algebra improved and developed a love for math because of the commitment made on the part of both my students and their parents to reinforce skills taught in the classroom. Additionally, many of my former students discussed their success in the next year’s Algebra I course because of the core algebraic foundation we established and their early exposure to concepts taught in Algebra I. As a Miles College Upward Bound science instructor, I provided critical test-taking skills and mentored students preparing to enter into their undergraduate studies.
I now currently work in statistical methods as a public health professional in the metro Atlanta area, in which I hold a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics on the Pre-medicine studies track from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA and a Master of Science in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology from University of Alabama at Birmingham in Birmingham, AL. I can work with students at any level, including undergraduate and graduate students (particularly graduate students in the Public Health programs) and help prepare them for admission entrance exams (SAT, ACT, and GRE-quantitative portion). I am patient, determined, enthusiastic, and encouraging to my students in aiding them to reach their current goals, while instilling key principles in preparation for future aspirations. My motivation is to help students gain a renewed sense of understanding in mathematics or science and to develop a logic that can be used in the future, whether or not their chosen career profession are in either of these subject areas. However, I only ask that my students possess a strong desire for learning if they work with me so that real progress can be made.

I am a public health professional with several years of statistical experience. I have taken several courses in Biostatistics such as Introduction to Biostatistics, Statistical Methods II, Categorical Data Analysis, and Public Health Research Study Design and Analysis Concepts. In my current work, I conduct and assist in conducting statistical analyses using either SAS or JMP.
Although I have not taught at the elementary school level in the past, I have tutored students in these grades through a project called Project Horizons (previously sponsored through Dekalb County Public Library) for approximately 6 years (1993-1999). This literacy and tutoring project served children and their parents residing in the metro Atlanta area.
