Does your elementary student need help in reading or math? Is your child struggling to keep up with his/her classmates? Is he/she losing his/her confidence? If so, contact me! I can help! I am a recently retired teacher having approximately 30 years of experience in grades K through 6.
I am familiar with the Georgia Performance Standards and various curricula. In 1995, I trained at Georgia State to become a Reading Recovery Teacher. I worked in that capacity in DeKalb County for about 8 years. This is a program in which I offered individualized reading lessons daily to the lowest first grade readers bringing them up to the average of their classes. By guiding the students to use the meaning, structure, and visuals in the text, these struggling students were able to integrate all these cues to become excellent readers!
In my most recent full-time employment, I was an EIP (Early Intervention Program) teacher. I would go into various grade level classrooms and work with the at-risk students in reading and/or math. This extra assistance allowed the students to keep up with their classmates. I consider myself a highly skilled math teacher proficient at all elementary math levels. I have always loved math and I often convince my students that math is really fun!
It is my goal as a tutor to combine my experiences with my ability to be a positive, patient, and enthusiastic teacher using a variety of methods to increase the student's confidence level and lead him/her to thoroughly understand the necessary concepts and skills. I will work with you, your child, and his/her teacher to guide him/her on the way to being successful in school.
If your child needs help in reading or math, please contact me. I want to make learning fun for your child and turn his/her frown upside down!
