ADD/ADHD

I am certified to teach Special Education in the State of Georgia, and have worked as as a teacher in regular and special education for over 20 years with a variety of students, including those diagnosed as ADD / ADHD. I am well-versed at adapting instruction to meet the needs of children and adults with attentional issues and use and teach a variety of strategies to help compensate for attentional deficits.

Aspergers

My background includes 10 years of experience and certification in the field of Special Education. I have worked with students diagnosed on the Asperger's-autism spectrum both in the classroom and in one-on-one tutorial sessions. My ability to adapt instruction to best meet the individual needs of my students is one of my greatest strengths as a tutor with this population.

ASVAB

I am very familiar with the subject matter that is required to do well on the ASVAB and can help you be successful on the AFQT portion of this test. Higher scores will give you more options in regards to which branch of the military and job classifications you will qualify for.

I am a certified teacher with a master's degree and over 20 years teaching and tutoring experience. I am patient and can teach you the content and test-taking strategies that will help you do well on this exam.

Autism

I hold a Master's Degree with a major in Special Education. I have worked with autistic students for over 10 years. I am familiar with implementation of behavioral and instructional modifications that facilitate instruction for autistic students.

Dyslexia

I am certified to teach Special Education and have taught in this field for 10 years, including working with dyslexic and other learning disabled students. I am very familiar with providing instruction and adapting assignments to benefit dyslexic individuals.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have taught and tutored elementary students for over 20 years and am familiar with the curriculum and content in grades K-5. I have a record of success in teaching students the content necessary to pass standardized tests,

English

I am certified in the field of English as a foreign language by the State of Georgia and have complete a 150 hour TESOL course. I have taught English language arts courses for over 20 years and have 10 years of experience working with children and adults learning English as a Second Language. I can tailor a program of study to meet your learning objectives, whether it be improving your conversational English or assisting with writing for college courses.

ESL/ESOL

I am endorsed in the field of ESOL/ESL by the State of Georgia and have completed a 150 hour TESOL certification course. I have over nine years of experience teaching Reading, Writing, and spoken English to speakers of other languages. I have taught English to school children, business professionals, and graduate students. I work hard to develop lessons tailored to the unique learning needs and goals of each student.

GRE

I am familiar with the content of the GRE, and can help you to prepare for the test. I specialize in the areas of Reading and Writing, as a certified ESL teacher and Reading Specialist with many years of experience. Let me know if I can help!

Phonics

As a reading specialist and teacher of special needs students, I have training and experience in teaching students this valuable basis to reading fluency. I have diverse techniques and materials to use to assist the beginning reader.

Proofreading

As an avid writer and experienced teacher of English Language Arts, I have the skills necessary to competently edit and proofread your documents. I have experience with corporate communications, research papers and theses in both MLA and APA formats. I pay close attention to detail and am diligent about following up with any questions I may encounter. My turn around time is typically within a day or two, depending on length, but I will be glad to try to accommodate your deadlines whenever possible. I can send you samples of my writing at your request.

PSAT

To prepare for the PSAT, students need to gain confidence by becoming familiar with the test content and structure, as well as brushing up on test-taking strategies, such as time management and knowing when to guess or pass.

I am experienced in teaching test preparation skills. I will quickly assess the student's current level of performance, then tailor instruction to remediate any content deficits and to accelerate test-taking proficiency.

Reading

I am certified as a Reading Specialist at the Masters level, and have many years of experience teaching reading to students of all ages. I specialize in early literacy, but can tailor a program of study for all ages, including test-prep skills and ESL students.

Special Needs

I am an experienced tutor and teacher of special needs students, and have worked in both self-contained and resource models to serve students with autism, developmental delays, mild mental handicaps, language delays, and attentional issues. I hold a Master's Degree in Education, with a major in teaching children in grades Pre K-12 with Mild to Moderate Disabilities. I was a Special Education teacher in public and private schools for over ten years, and I continue to hold certification to teach exceptional children. One of my strengths as a tutor is assessing students' current abilities and developing an individual program of instruction to meet their individual needs and interests. I look forward to an opportunity to discuss working with your special needs child.

Study Skills

I am an experienced teacher and tutor who has many strategies I can share to help you learn to be an effective learner. Whatever subject area you are studying, I can help you learn to better organize your studying and learn ways to help master the material. I have worked with typical and special needs students for over 20 years, and have knowledge of techniques you can learn to make your study time more effective.

Writing

I am a semi-retired English / Language Arts teacher. I am glad to help students of all ages improve their writing skills. I have worked with students from elementary school through college and beyond to improve their written language. In addition, I have worked with college undergrads and grad students on proofreading and editing papers in a variety of subjects. I am very familiar with writing in APA format.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
