Teaching is my dream in life. It is what makes me feel fulfilled and happy. I would say that it all started when I was a Freshman (9th grade) at Santa Monica High School. I was not the greatest of students in middle school. I had potential but could not pay any attention, and when I did the material just didn't make any sense. I was unable to retain any information regarding math or science.
In the end of Freshman year, I was left with very few weeks left to go from a low "F" to a passing grade. There was only one solution; find a tutor. I went to tutoring after school with a substitute teacher for the district, but it still wasn't enough. He just went over the same information that was in the class and wasn't able to fully help me, as there were so many other students that needed him. With time slipping away a family friend offered to help me one-on-one.
This family friend is an Engineer, so clearly he was a great candidate for tutoring me. His system was simple--start from scratch. Using flash cards meant for elementary math and some real-life examples, I was able to pass with 97%.
His system of using real-life examples is what I employ. I prefer to learn what my students' weak points, strong suits, and interests are. With this system, I am able to determine what concepts they are not comprehending fully. Isolating and eventually eradicating these issues. I don't often have to use the flash-cards method, but will if necessary.
Since I began tutoring a year ago, I have seen my students go from near-failing grades to a 90% average. All of my former and current students know that if they need any help they can contact me via phone call, Skype, email, or text message. This will never change, and unless the Skype call is a lesson, there will never be a charge.
My standard rate is $35 per hour. However, payment options are negotiable to an extent(please message me for more details). Lessons are booked in two hour blocks, with a 24 hour cancellation policy. All cancelled lessons can be rescheduled.
