I am State Certified in Middle Grades in Georgia and was K-12 certified in South Carolina. My subject matter is centered around the student's individual needs at the time of the tutoring relationship. Methodology is determined by student's learning style and strategies developed to enhance the student's study skills.
I believe that teaching my students to better function in an English-speaking world. This include not only the "proper" use of English, but also idioms and every day phrases that Americans use and take for granted that everyone understands. My methods are designed for each student's learning style and the instruction varies to keep the teaching and tutoring session interesting.
My college minor was in sociology. I have taught social studies in middle school and sociology ant the freshman level in college. Additional courses included group dynamics, understanding the middle grade student, Senn-Delaney group dynamic and change leadership, and Steven Covey leadership. I have a Master's in Educational Leadership in which my electives focused on student performance improvement. I also have a second Master's in Human Performance Improvement which focused on determining where a person is lacking in certain skill areas and develops techniques to help that person improve the performance he or she is seeking. I have worked with groups and individuals on the process.
