Dr. Tom D. is the author of articles on innovative teaching techniques for at risk students, a former member of the Learning Magazine writing staff, and is occasionally featured on local and national radio and TV. His published works include a book that outlines innovative teaching strategies and motivational techniques that have proven successful and earned him national recognition.
He has also been the subject of articles in publications written by the Milken Family Foundation, featuring traits of an exceptional educator.
Tom D. now teaches composition and rhetoric at Columbus State College, Columbus, GA. Aside from his teaching duties, he travels the country conducting seminars, workshops, and motivational presentations for educators working with children who are tough to teach.
He is nationally recognized by Learning Magazine as its 1993 Professional Best Educator, by Walt Disney as the 1994 English Teacher of the Year, by Milken Family Foundation as one of its 1995 National Educators, by Atlanta Journal/Constitution as its 1996 Honor Teacher, by the National Teachers Hall of Fame as a 1994 Inductee, by The Georgia Juvenile Justice Department as its “2001-2002 Teacher of the Year.”
