My name is Dr. H. I have been teaching at the collegiate level for about fifteen years now. My courses include: logical and critical thinking, literature, classical issues, history of ancient philosophy, history of modern philosophy, ethics, writing intensive courses, ESL/TESOL, world history, US history, social studies, social sciences, grammar and composition, and mathematics.
After many years of teaching college, I have decided to make a lateral move to secondary education. Hence, I am in the process of becoming a certified public school teacher. I have taken several education courses to increase my own edification, including exploring teaching and learning processes and curriculum and instruction. I am familiar with the standardized tests, e.g. CRCT, SSAT, SAT, ISEE, ACT, graduation/senior tests, etc., required to obtain a diploma. Furthermore, I took and passed the Praxis with high marks in the year 2007. I decided to re-examine my skill set and took the GACE in April of 2013. My GACE scores were: 295, 282, and 270--- math, reading comprehension, and writing respectively.
Throughout my college career, I served as a paid tutor for the Spelman College Learning Resources Center. I tutored a number of students in various fields: math, social sciences, writing, grammar, composition, reading, physical sciences, philosophy, psychology, sociology, history, study and organizational skills, etc.
I have also spent the last five years as a professional tutor. In addition, I have experience working with unique students is my specialty - positively ADHD, innovatively enthusiastic, creatively ADD, and fortunately special.
Most importantly, I am passionate about teaching students as well as learning with them. I have been told time and time again, “With your credentials, you can do anything.” I agree; nonetheless, teaching is the only thing that I want to do.

I recently moved to ATL and was in desperate need to find tutors for my children. It seemed as though the schools here did not have resources available to tutor and were clueless as to where I could find support. I truly stumbled upon WyzAnt via a Google search. I used 2 tutors for my daughter and 1 other for my son prior to finding an excellent tutor/professor for my kids. It has been such a blessing that I came across Dr. Tara via WyzAnt. She is exactly what my son needs. She is patient which is key because my son has ADD. She communicates the material well and explains it thoroughly. She really knows the subject matter (she's working with my son on Geometry). I appreciate her flexibility. I had a tutor that just wouldn't show up and I needed help immediately with my son's online class and for him to meet deadlines. Not only did Dr. Tara respond quickly to my WyzAnt e-mail, she was available to start with my son immediately. The next day we met and lessons started. She has gotten my son up to speed and back on track. She is truly a God send. The fact that she "clicked" with my family was awesome. A student must feel comfortable with a stranger and trust their knowledge! We have had great results with assignments and tests. Thanks! I highly recommend Dr. Tara. You will be extremely pleased. I just wish I would have found her sooner. It would have been great to have her work with my kids at the beginning of the school year. No worries though, I will definitely have continuous lesson over the summer as well as the upcoming school year. I am very pleased with Dr. Tara and WyzAnt.
I feel like Tara teaches me according to my learning, she does not try to change me. I have only met with her twice and have gotten a lot out of it.
Very patient, Great tutor, active, make kids like her. She bring material to help kids to understand, encourage kids all the time. Trying to give kids chance to talk and express him self. I think she excellent and great tutor.
Dr. Tara has been an excellent tutor who is knowledgeable and great to work with during each tutoring session. Dr. Tara projects a positive and confident approach to tutoring. I would highly recommend her to anyone needing assistance with lessons now are in the future.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
The ACT is an achievement test, measuring what a student has learned in school. The SAT is more of an aptitude test, testing reasoning and verbal abilities.
The ACT has up to 5 components: English, Mathematics, Reading, Science, and an optional Writing Test. The SAT has only 3 components: Critical Reasoning, Mathematics, and a required Writing Test.
The College Board introduced a new version of the SAT in 2005, with a mandatory writing test. ACT continues to offer its well-established test, plus an optional writing test. You take the ACT Writing Test only if required by the college(s) you're applying to.
The SAT has a correction for guessing. That is, they take off for wrong answers. The ACT is scored based on the number of correct answers with no penalty for guessing.
The ACT has an Interest Inventory that allows students to evaluate their interests in various career options.
I myself have taken the ASVAB because it was my intention to go to the Air Force. I scored quite well on this test. In short, ASVAB stands for Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery. It is the test used by all United States military services to determine a recruit's fitness for military service as well as his aptitude to perform certain jobs.

As a Humanities major in both college and graduate school, I am definitely qualified to aid students with any Language Arts or reading comprehension course, including grammar, Literature, and composition. In addition, I am quite adept in all areas of mathematics, as I have been tutoring/teaching the subject matter since 2004, including but not limited to Numbers and operations, Advanced Algebra, and Geometry.
Reading comprehension is defined as the level of understanding of a text/message. This understanding comes from the interaction between the words that are written and how they trigger knowledge outside the text/message. Proficient reading depends on the ability to recognize words quickly and effortlessly. If word recognition is difficult, students use too much of their processing capacity to read individual words, which interferes with their ability to comprehend what is read.
