Dear potential student,
Hi! I'm Jordan, a college graduate with a bachelor's in English interdisciplinary studies. I am a self proclaimed "nerd" when it comes to school and I can't help but get excited when I get a chance to talk about what I love! My area of expertise is explaining literature in a way you can relate to--usually in a random but hilarious and informative way. I want you to understand that, even if a story was written years ago, we can still relate that lesson in today's world. My strengths are found in poetry, Shakespeare, feminist prose, and British and world literature. I understand that not everyone is strong in English (math and I are not friends) but I believe that, given the right approach, anyone and everyone can learn to analyze works of literature as well as become an amazing writer. I also love to edit papers and can assist in making clear, concise, and interesting essays in almost any subject. My experience in a creative writing class in college aided me in honing in on those skills. I'm able to give relevant feedback about sentence structure, character development, descriptive, as well as research-based writing.
My genuine attitude, easy-going nature, and skills in this area will make me the ideal tutor! Children and I get along really well (it may have to do with the fact that we're almost the same size!) and I believe that if students aren't learning the way something is being taught, we need to teach them in the same way they learn. Some accomplishments of mine include: spoken word poet (I have won the GGC idol/been a runner up every time I've competed) which makes me an ideal tutor for public speaking. I do freelance band reviews, I write my own blog, I have presented multiple papers at many conferences during my undergraduate education, and was a part of a team that won the T.a.G award for creativity and education! For my church I wrote and performed in a video a Christmas spoken word poem that was shown in not only our Lawrenceville campus but also the L.A. location. I am in the works of writing another poem for Easter as well!
I hope that sums it up nicely. Feel free to email me and we can get started on re-discovering English. I promise it will be fun!
