I have a BS and MS in Physics from Georgia Tech and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Carnegie Mellon University. I worked for 30+ years as an applied mathematician for Westinghouse in Pittsburgh. During that time I also taught as an adjunct professor at CMU and at Duquesne University in the Mathematics Departments. I have tutored many high school and college students over the years and enjoy doing so, especially seeing "the light come on". Kenneth is a great tutor, very patient and connects well with our 17 year old son. I would recommend him to anyone.
The smile on my son's face after 1 hr and 45 minutes of tutoring with Kenneth was priceless. He felt like he learned more from him in one night than he has in class for the past 5 weeks. Kenneth is patient and teaches in a way my son understands. We could not have had a better first experience.
Kenneth was one of the best tutors that we have ever worked with. He not only possesses the knowledge, but can also explain things in a way that's easy to understand. He's the kind of person that will jump in and help you if you're behind. I don't usually write reviews, but he's certainly worth it.
Not much about the first meeting. Just cleared up some questions and scheduled for later meetings. Overall, he seems decent, and we'll see really start making progress at the next lesson.
Not only does he have a lot of experience, but he is very flexible according to what the student's needs are. From a logistical perspective, he is also very flexible with regard to scheduling, very prompt at meeting times, and is extremely quick in answering email, etc.
Kenneth is an awesome tutor. We worked with a tutor prior to Kenneth and didn't see any improvements in our student's Physics and Trig grades. As soon as Kenneth started working with him, his grades improved immediately. He says he takes his time and explains each problem/answer to him in a way that he understands. This has not only improved his grades, but his attitude towards his school work has improved. He actually wants to do the work Thank you Kenneth!
We are so thankful to have found Ken! He is very knowledgeable and knows his stuff. He relates well to my daughter and patiently explains concepts and answers any questions. He doesn't watch the clock and continues until my daughter is feeling confident of the material. She got an A on her last test!
Very patient and thorough. He made sure the student understood the lesson before leaving the session. My daughter struggles with math. Ken made learning and understanding the problems much easier than her instructor. She received a B+.
How lucky I was that Ken answered my call! I was anxious to try to find someone who could tutor Calc III, it being such a high level of Math.
His calm, mature personality was perfect for my daughter. He had the intellect and patience to spend 3+ hours if need be, working the problems through together with my daughter. She left his sessions feeling prepared and ready for class. If there was a particularly difficult problem, and he felt she didn't get it, he would email her later with detailed explanations. He TRULY has a love and gift for math. He is punctual and always on top of his game, someone to definitely count on! I wish I had found him years ago!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
