I taught ADD/ADHD students for several years and in doing so, wrote IEPs and worked with them on a daily basis in making accommodations so that their learning strengths were maximized. I know how to break their subjects down into manageable chunks so attention is maintained and learning is most effective. I also know how to determine learning styles in order to address the modality where students are most effective. I also know how to make learning fun rather than a chore. I have the compassion to meet students right where they are and help them be the best they can be and feel the most positive about themselves.
I have been certified to teach Special Education and served autistic students since 1990. My certificate is current and I am effective with Special Needs Students. I have been deemed highly qualified and am also certified in supervision/administration so am in a position to supervise teachers P-12 and very experienced and capable with students.
I have taken and worked in the field of business for many years. I took marketing, economics and many consumer and business courses on both the Bachelors and Masters level. In addition, on the Specialists level took many classes on budget and business in conjunction with effectively running a school system.
I took 23 quarter hours in order to coordinate a program called Project Success and a great deal of the coursework was in the area of both career development and preparation. I have done classroom work with students, utilizing materials from the GA Dept. of Labor for Career Development purposes and to assist in guiding and helping students prepare for career areas. In addition, I worked for an employment agency prior to getting into education so I understand the requirements of the world of work for employees.
I am certified by the state of Georgia to teach Family and Consumer Science which includes nutrition, cooking, and food preparation classes. I have conducted demonstrations on cooking. I have worked with food service groups on meal planning in conjunction with language and cultural celebrations.
I played several percussion instruments in High School. The snare drum, the bass drum, and others to name a few. I read music play piano and am adept with basic drum instruction.
I have worked with many many students with Learning Disabilities including dyslexia. In addition, I received much additional training in working with dyslexic students, including week long workshops in Atlanta with the Georgia Dyslexia Foundation. I worked exclusively with special needs students for eleven years and served nearly all exceptionalities especially Learning Disabled populations which included Dyslexia. I was a member of the International and Georgia Dyslexia Foundations for many years.
I have worked with younger children on a limited basis, but do have some experiences with them. While working on my undergraduate degree I took a several courses in child development. In one of these we completed extensive observations and field practice study in working with younger students. When we would return into the classroom our professor would help us to understand what various actions that the children completed meant so that we could comprehend what their activities meant. In working on my masters degree, we had field projects with lower grade, (first grade) children where we interacted directly with our students and served as a one-on-one teacher for them.
My experiences in education have primarily been with 6th-12th grade students, but I have 10 younger aged grandchildren and spend a lot of time with them. I enjoy interacting with younger children and have even written some stories for children of that age.

I tutored freshmen college students as an undergraduate. I have written professionally publishing some articles in regional and national publications. I taught English as part of a High School Diploma recovery program. I worked with one ninth grader who had a second grade level reading level and by the end of the year she had acquired a sixth grade level. I am highly qualified with certification in Language Arts on the Middle School Level.
I took fifty clock hours of computer instruction. Prior to becoming a teacher I owned an advertising company and we processed numerous pieces of personalized direct mail in our home computer. My students at one school had email pen pals and we developed a class web site. I taught some of my students Power Point and they completed class projects on careers they had chosen. I have always utilized technology in my teaching.
I have worked with technology since pre-internet days. When computers first came out, we processed a tremendous volume of personalized direct main. I have utilized technology in the classroom as long as I have been teaching.
I took fifty clock hours of technology instruction in a University setting. I am currently utilizing Windows 7. I have used all versions of Microsoft Office: basic and professional.
In my teaching career I have taken all of the required teaching examinations and successfully passed them. Initially, I took and passed the TCT, and began teaching. Then, prior to receiving my EdS I took the Praxis and successfully passed that. A few years ago, I took the GACE and passed that examination as well, which established my qualifications as a highly qualified teacher. I would be well qualified to assist someone wanting help in passing any of these high stakes tests required to begin teaching due to the fact that I am able to do well on them myself.

I have experience teaching GED, facilitating HS diploma level academic/technical mathematics to young adults aged 16-24. I've been team teaching Physical Science on 9th grade levels, functioning as a learning specialist with applied mathematics problems
No one can stand over your student and show him how to simply do items, without equipping him to problem solve for himself and develop the necessary skill set to move forward independently. Most important, is his development of assurance in his ability to be successful.
I am experienced in public speaking. I had many opportunities to engage in public speaking while growing up and as an adult have completed presentations for civic clubs and other groups. I took speech as an undergraduate and did well with the course. I can help you become confident in public speaking and help you organize your notes so that you do well when you engage in speaking before a group.
When I was growing up I was a regular member of a teen panel program on radio. I was on television on two occasions at that time and as an adult I appeared on TV to promote activities at a shopping center where I was marketing manager.
I have been sewing since I was about nine years old. In addition, I am certified to teach Family and Consumer Science on the HS and MS levels in the state of GA. I have sold sewing machines, and know all the working parts to a machine.
I have a masters degree in teaching special education. I have worked with every exception except vision impaired. I am very good at working with students with special needs and have a variety of ways for assisting students in learning new material. I know how to build on students strengths in order to give them the confidence in themselves they need to do well. It is important for students to believe in themselves in order to do their best.

I have an Educational Specialists Degree in Educational Supervision/Administration and a Master's degree in Education. I passed the TCT many years ago when I began teaching, the Praxis when I obtained my Specialists Degree, and the TEAS as well a few years ago. In completing my Specialists Degree I took a course in Supervision and supervised another teacher in helping her improve her teaching.
