I was a substitute teacher in Myrtle Beach for two years in 1998 and 1999 in grades K-5. I started substitute teaching here in Blue Ridge, GA, beginning the last school year also in grades K-5. I have tutored individual students in counting money and especially preparing them for the standardized tests at year end in math. I love math and was taught how to add, subtract and multiply in my head as a child, so it comes very easy to me to teach others. I can help in other areas such as reading and English, as well as science and history if need be as long as I know what the child is trying to accomplish. I recently had an experience helping children in 5th grade who were having trouble with multiplication and taught a young boy 9x7. I asked him two hours later what 9x7 was when I saw him on the playground and he knew it. I told him if I worked with him every day and we learned a new problem every day he would have it accomplished very quickly. I love the elementary school level. I have a granddaughter who will be 5 this month and she is my most interesting student. She is always teaching me new things about children with her exciting enthusiasm for life.
There was a 4th grade teacher in Myrtle Beach (actually Surfside Beach, SC - Seaside Elementary) that requested me all the time because I could handle her class and got them to respond very well. I also subbed for a week there for a teacher that just taught children that were struggling in certain areas and would have different students each period with many different needs.
