Hi, and thanks for visiting my profile! While you are here, let me tell you a little about myself and why I think I am your perfect tutor.
My passion for math began in high school. Although I performed equally well in all subjects, studying math provided an outlet for me that the other subjects did not. This passion led me to pursue my Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Systems Engineering from Georgia Tech, from which I graduated in 2004.
I worked as a project engineer at a local residential design firm for four years. However, the birth of my first daughter and the housing market crash of 2006 caused me to revisit my career goals. I went back to school, earning my Master of Education in Math Education (grades 6-12) from the University of Georgia in 2008. I have had the pleasure of teaching mathematics at a local high school, where I still remain today. Courses I have taught include Integrated Algebra, Integrated Algebra 2, Gifted Precalculus, and Common Core Coordinate Algebra, which I am teaching currently.
Aside from teaching math, I have a secondary passion for integrating technology into the classroom and received my Specialists in Instructional Technology (also from the University of Georgia) in May 2013. Consequently, I possess a wealth of easily accessible outside resources that I would love to share with you to help you (or your child) learn and master mathematical content.
Choosing me as your tutor gives you access to a wealth of mathematical knowledge, experience and guidance. Being a working member of the public school system, I am well aware of current curricular issues that are a part of students' education. As your tutor, my experience and resources are yours.
I look forward to speaking with you!
I have been teaching Algebra 1 (in some form) for the last six years. I have experience with this subject at all levels - college prep and gifted/accelerated and consider success in this subject to be fundamental to success in other math subjects. For this reason, I take great pride and care in helping students master this subject.
I have taught Algebra 2 at both the college prep and gifted levels for the last two years. I love tutoring this subject because I find it to be one of the most applicable subjects students will be introduced to and I love using my own experience as an engineer to demonstrate this applicability to my students. Mastery of this subject will provide students the ability to think critically and problem solve.
Although I love teaching high school students, nothing warms my heart more than seeing younger children interested in learning about math. Unfortunately, difficulties in math at an early age can cause unnecessary fear in learning math at a later age. It is my goal as an elementary math tutor to help guide, support and motivate your child as he/she develops their mathematics learning style.
Prealgebra introduces your child to the basic skills necessary to perform more complex algebraic operations. At the very basic level, students must be comfortable with their multiplication tables (at least up to 12); integer addition, subtraction, division and multiplication; proportions and percentages; and all operations on fractions. My focus as a Prealgebra tutor is to help build your child's competency in these areas while supporting specific instructional needs.
I have been playing tennis since I was 5 years old. I played on my high school team, Georgia Tech's rec team and coached my current high school's JV girls tennis team. Additionally, I play on multiple recreational leagues (ALTA, USTA, T2).
