I have 10+ years of experience working with various programs in the Adobe Creative Suite, and have previously tutored individuals in the use of Photoshop and Dreamweaver. As a digital photographer, I use Photoshop (and similar programs such as Adobe Lightroom) on a daily basis, and enjoy teaching others how to use these amazing applications.

I was also a Desktop Publishing instructor for a group of honor students in and after-school program at Cass High School, and I was a Web & Graphic Design instructor for a class at North Metro Technical College (now Chattahoochee Tech.) I also ran the print and document services centers at two OfficeMax stores during the past 5 years.

I prefer a hands-on approach to instruction, letting the student "learn by doing," rather than having them try to memorize information from a book. I find that people absorb and retain skills much more readily when they're actually required to put those skills to use during the learning process. Practical application of the techniques enforces their relevance, and the students typically have a more enjoyable time learning the material if they're actually applying what they've learned, rather than just sitting and listening to a lecture.

Adobe Photoshop

I have been using Adobe Photoshop since version 4 was released (in 1996) and while I wouldn't consider myself a "master" of Photoshop, I am very capable with the program, and use it daily with my digital photography work.

I have taught people the fundamentals of Photoshop in the past, and I use a hands-on approach to demonstrate the various tools and techniques while the student is learning how to use the program. Since there are multiple ways to accomplish almost any task in Photoshop, it's important that the student has a clear idea of exactly what it is they want to learn about the program. Learning how to use each of the tools is very different from learning how to create a certain effect or make specific adjustments to an image. It's much easier to learn the program if the student has a clear understanding of what it is they want to know how to do before the training actually begins. That being said, I'm always willing to show anyone some of the cool things that Photoshop can do.

Desktop Publishing

I am familiar with Adobe InDesign & Pagemaker, Microsoft Publisher, and have working knowledge of Quark Xpress. I have worked as a Desktop Publishing instructor for an after-school honors program.
