Hello to everyone who reads my profile! My name is Lori. Currently I am a 6th grade Language Arts Teacher. Daily, I have been granted the privilege to facilitate the education of 110 eager and curious 11-12 year olds. I love and admire their willingness to learn.
I have been a teacher for the past 25 years. I received my under graduate degree from Portland State University. Although I currently am not in a graduate program, I have numerous hours of coursework beyond my undergraduate degree. After receiving my undergraduate degree, I completed coursework to become a media specialist, a teacher librarian. During my ten year period as a media specialist, I taught in both elementary and middle school. I taught research skills and literature appreciation. During that time, I completed coursework and receive an elementary endorsement which allowed me to teach self-contained classes, all subjects, in elementary school and language arts and social studies classes in middle school.
I have found teaching to be rewarding. It is amazing to reunite with students I have taught. I am always excited to hear how well they have done. I know that teaching does not always have immediate rewards. However, I can tell you that the rewards are worth the wait when you find yourself face to face with one of your former students and they tell you how much your teaching positively influenced their life. Wow, that is amazing!
My area of expertise is helping struggling middle school readers and writers. During my 25 years as a teacher, I have successfully used various teaching methods to help my struggling readers and writers. As a tutor I will assess my student, and create an instructional plan that will help them reach their education goals. My goal is that the student understands that it is possible to be a great success in school.
