Currently, I teach sophomore and junior level philosophy courses at Georgia State University. My professional superiors and students rate my work as excellent. For example, on average, students rate my effectiveness as an instructor at 4.5 out of 5.

I believe that the goal of learning is not only to obtain knowledge but also to hone thinking abilities. A successful teacher will enable students to identify solutions to problems, analyze various forms of data, and evaluate material. Ideally, a teacher guides a student's development, allowing the student to outgrow his or her need for the instructor.

I am able to tutor writing, reading, vocabulary, critical thinking, philosophy, and social science.

Additionally, I can play a part in your child's preparation for important standardized tests. Studies have consistently demonstrated that developing critical thinking abilities increases test scores.

I earned a BA in philosophy from Georgia State University and a MSc in Sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Currently, I am pursuing a MA in philosophy.

Feel free to contact me for discussion or questions.

Sincerely,

--Matt

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Sociology

I have a MSc in sociology from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Earning this degree required obtaining high level knowledge of the sociology of various phenomenon. These included basic history of social movements and government, gender and race, the history of social thought, and class.

Study Skills

Currently I teach courses at a university. When students visit me during office hours and ask me for assistance, I am required to see how they are studying in order to assess what sort of advice to give them. I often engage with students about this aspect of the learning process for quite some time. Additionally, I have a job as a Supplemental Instruction Leader, for critical thinking, which required that I worked with groups on students about their study habits.
