ESL is my love! I've been working in the field for over 8 years and have taught everything! I became TEFL certified just months after graduating from college, and moved to Indonesia to teach. I spent my first two years as an ESL Instructor outside of Jakarta, where I learned and grew as a teacher. While increasing my love for internationals students, these years also taught me how to be flexible and ready to teach anyone at anytime.

I have taught children from 3 years old to adults in their 70's! I've taught general English in group classes as well as in private tutoring sessions, and also have experience in TOEFL and Business English. I have been blessed to progress in the ESL industry very quickly, being promoted rapidly within the schools I've worked for. I've even worked as the assistant director of a large ESL school when I was living in Boston. Currently, I'm an ESL manager at a local college, where I hire and train New ESL instructors.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

My undergraduate degree is in Intercultural studies, which is a bachelor of arts in biblical studies, with an emphasis on missions. I also have graduate credit in New Testament 1 and 2 from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. Additionally, I have been involved in personal Bible studies for many years of my life, since my teenage years.

ESL/ESOL

I became TEFL/TESOL certified in 2006, and have been teaching ever since then. I have spent two years teaching in Indonesia to all ages and skill levels. Right now I work at a college in the ESL department, where I hire and train new ESL teachers.

Grammar

As an ESL instructor for many years, it has been essential that I become familiar with topics related to advanced grammar. Many English speakers cannot explain why we use the language in the way that we do, nor can they break down grammar rules for students. However, from my experience, I have learned how to communicate grammar rules to students while providing opportunity for contextual practice. I have experience in teaching everything from the most basic verb tenses to topics such as clefting and fronting.

IELTS

I have taught and tutored students for IELTS exams during my time at EC language school in Boston, MA. I taught and helped design core classes and electives to ensure that students received relevant practice for this particular exam. I was trained by my company at that time using IELTS speaking interviews, in order to help standardize grading of oral components within our General English programs, so I am very familiar with the requirements of IELTS.

TOEFL

Over the past several years I have had the opportunity to teach a few TOEFL courses. I have also privately tutored students who were preparing to take their TOEFL exam. I am familiar with the various test sections and how to help students increase their language ability, while still preparing for this standardized test.
