Hello my name is Mary and if there was a single word that would describe me, most people would say helpful. If you are on this site you may need guidance through the sometimes scary world of data analysis. For the past ten years I have worked in the world of research, creating research projects, managing databases and analyzing data. I have extensive experience with SPSS and data management. I have worked as a research fellow and am now a project coordinator. While working as an NIH fellow, I developed a mixed methods study, which was the basis of my masters thesis. In addition to study development, as a fellow I gained invaluable experience by assisting with administrative task that involved creating EndNote reference databases, conduct literature reviews, writing abstracts, coding narratives, and writing grants. Upon graduation, I became a project coordinator. As coordinator, I assist with formative data collection and evaluation, data management and analysis, and preparing manuscripts for presentation and publication. Finally, I have worked as a SPSS lab professor at the college-level for three years. I created lesson plans, taught over 100 students and oversaw their senior research projects.
Through my academic and professional experiences, I have developed the strengths of being organized, the ability to multi-task, patient, a team player, and flexible. These attributes with the culmination of my academic and professional experiences, would make me an effective tutor. Mary is an excellent tutor! She is helping me with understanding stats for my doctoral dissertation. She explains things expertly and helps me see it in plain terms. She is patient and, because she is so knowledgeable, she is a great sounding board.
Mary tutored me on my analysis for my dissertation. She is very thorough and ensured that every aspect of the analysis was explained. I received from her study material that I was able to review in between our lessons, which helped. I believe that working with Mary I am prepared to defend my dissertation confidently.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I worked as a career counselor for three years at Georgia Southern University. I edited resumes and helped students navigate the job market.
