My name is Stephen and I am 24 years old. I am currently a junior at Georgia Tech majoring in Mechanical Engineering. I have made A's in all math classes through Calculus 3 and both Physics 1 & 2. I believe it is essential that a person not only understands how to solve problems in math or physics, but how are these concepts used outside of the classroom. If these concepts can be visualized in this method, it will make problem solving far easier.
I use this method when tutoring. I explain things in a way that can easily be visualized, rather than just telling a student to memorize a formula. I am very patient and very thorough in my teaching. I understand that subjects like math and physics can be very challenging at times. I also understand how hopeless it seems when you are behind in a class because you just couldn't understand a concept. That is why I want to help others succeed through patient and thorough teaching.
My relevant experience comes from several experiences. My first experience came when I graduated from high school and enlisted in the US Navy. While in recruit training I was appointed as Master-At-Arms. This position in recruit training is similar to that of a manager at a job. Since I excelled in many areas, I helped my peers succeed as I had. Unfortunately I was medically discharged from the Navy prior to the end of my enlistment. After the Navy I took a position in sales with Verizon Wireless and was promoted to manager shortly there after. As store manager, I was responsible for teaching sales techniques to my sales representatives. I continued working with Verizon for four years until my wife graduated from college. Since my wife was finished with college and working, I resigned from Verizon to begin college. Due to my understanding and success in subjects such as math and physics, I tutored at my junior college in south GA and managed to help many others succeed in their classes.
